Wrexham booked their place in the second-round of the FA Cup after a convincing 3-0 home win against Woking FC.
After a quiet first 15 minutes the game came to life when Andy Bishop was brought down by Joe McNerney in the box. Neil Ashton stepped up for the resulting penalty and despite having his initial effort stopped by Jake Cole, prodded home the rebound for his first of the season.
Wrexham continued their dominance throughout the half and added a slick second soon after when Wes York clinically placed an Andy Bishop cross into the net to finish a fine move.
The attacks kept coming for an energetic Wrexham side, who perhaps save their best attacking displays for home FA Cup ties, and they added a third just before half-time when Bishop slammed home a York cross to put Wrexham into a comfortable lead.
Woking were understandably shocked and themselves pressed for a goal, but despite some sharp passing were unable to turn any of their chances into meaningful efforts at the Wrexham goal.
If the first half was an example of Wrexham’s finest attacking football, then the second half highlighted the outstanding defensive options at Kevin Wilkin’s disposal.
In a way, however, the second half was almost the opposite of what we had witnessed before the interval, as both sides saw countless shots skid wayward of their respective nets, with no more clear cut chances to add.
Woking came closest to adding a second half goal when Theo Lewis saw his header cleared off the line by the dominant Manny Smith, but it was the reds who played up to the occasion and saw out a deserved and professional home win.
Despite meeting Woking in the league on Wednesday, it will be all eyes on the draw tomorrow night as Wrexham wait to learn the fate of ball 32.
