Connor Is Head Boy...

Wrexham travelled home with a vital win thanks to the head of Connor Jennings, who converted a Blaine Hudson cross on our first attack of the game after 12 minutes.

After that Boreham Wood had keeper James Russell to thank for keeping the score down, as he produced a string of stunning saves to deny the Welshmen further goals.

At the other end, opposing keeper Cameron Belford was certainly no bystander, as he too showed his metal to record another cleansheet

It was virtually 10 minutes into the game before any real action of note, as Belford made the first save of the day to deny Graeme Montgomery, after a deflected clearance fell to the midfielder.

Two minutes later and Connor Jennings got on the end of a Blaine Hudson cross to head home unchallenged at the back post. His effort went looping over the exposed Russell in the Wood goal to open the scoring.

The next notable action came on 23 minutes, when Dominic Vose was given the time to ghost past two defenders, before unleashing a shot from 20 yards that crashed against an upright and rebounded back into play. Manny Smith was first to the ball, but his angled drive was climbing and eventually carried into the back gardens of the houses behind Russell’s goal.

In a little flurry of shots, Jennings' effort first was saved by the keeper, then a second effort landed on roof of the net for a corner. As the ball came in it took a great save by Russell to deny Moke’s pile driver from 15 yards.

The Wood then went to the other end of the field and won a corner as they put Newton was put under pressure. The cross came over and as two players slipped, the ball ran kindly for new signing Joe Devera to fire against the outside of Belford’s left hand post.

On 34 minutes, a Newton free kick from 25-yards was deflected behind for a corner. As the flag kick came in and was half cleared Gray recovered it and set up Jennings, but he put it a yard wide from eight yards out.

Right on the break, a lovely move down the left involving Jennings and Newton, saw the latter cross deep for the late arriving Manny Smith, his header was a cracker, back across the keeper, but somehow Russell turned in mid-air to palm behind for a corner.

Ht Boreham Wood 0-1 Wrexham

Two minutes in the second half and Scott Cox was booked for racking up the fouls – the last one was for nipping at the ankles of Vose.

Jennings then followed him into the referee’s notebook for a foul on the halfway line moments later.

On 53 minutes, a free kick on the left, for a foul on Vose, saw the ball sent in and as it was only half cleared Jennings fired off a shot which went straight at the keeper from 18 yards.

First substitute for the visitors came two minutes later, as Kayden Jackson replaced York and went onto the right flank.

A nice sweeping move from Wrexham on the hour, as Moke carried the ball forward 50 yards before finding Vose on the left, his layoff was to Newton and the full back’s angled drive was held well by Russell for the home side.

Mark Carrington was sent on for Gray, while the Wood replaced Cox with Junior Morias on 64 minutes.

From the restart in play, Fyfield had to be on his toes to nip the ball away from the toes of Charlie Macdonald, as the striker threatened to break through.

Another great save by Russell came on 70 minutes, this time he denied Vose with his feet, after the Reds carved out the openingwith a quick break by Jackson down the right.

On 74 minutes, it was Belford's turn to make a decent save, when tipping over a flying back-heeled effort, following a Boreham Wood free kick Then moments later a powerful header from Luke Howell wasn’t far over the Wrexham cross bar.

Our last sub came on with 12 minutes remaining, as Lee Fowler was exchanged for Vose.

Next Russell denied Carrington, whose looping header from 12 yards looked destined for the top corner, until the keeper managed to get across his goal to palm it away.

Then at the other end Belford was back in action to block a fierce long range shot from Morias.

Three added minutes seemed a great deal longer than that, as we held on for a welcome three points in north London.
