Crusaders To Take On Knights

Posted on: Mon 08 Mar 2010

THE Crusaders were second out of the hat in this evening's Challenge Cup draw and have pulled out a trip to York Knights, with the game to be played at their Huntingdon Stadium.

After losing out to Hull KR at this stage last season, this time around Brian Noble's men will fancy their chances of progressing to the Fifth round.

York recently landed the double signing of centre, Jordan Thompson, 18, and back row forward, John Davies, 19, on dual registrations from Castleford Tigers.

In 2009, Davies won the 'Player of the Season' award for the Tigers under 18's and 'Most Improved' award for the under 20's, whilst fellow teammate Thompson earned two appearances in the Tigers first team last season, and has also represented England at under 18's level.

The only remaining amateur side, Siddal, didn't have the best of rewards after seeing off Doncaster 26-0 in the last round, as they have been paired at home to Batley - but they might well fancy their chances of another shock at their Halifax base.

Of the three lower ranked French clubs, only Limoux have received a home tie, as Leigh Centurions will have to travel across the channel in six weeks time. Championship club Toulouse head to St Helens and Lezignan await the winners of the Widnes v Wigan St Judes meeting.

There are four all-Super League encounters, while one of the most entriguing ties will see Championship title favourites Barrow Raiders travel to the Jungle to take on top division Castleford - could this just be the cup shock!
