A far better performance from Wrexham that brought with it an all too familiar result, as decent football once again failed to produce enough goalscoring chances for the Dragons to pick a much needed victory.

With
Bradford being reduced to 10-men after just 26 minutes, the sense of frustration was heightened for the visiting supporters, but at least they had a last gasp penalty equaliser from Chris Armstrong to help warm them on a freezing afternoon in West Yorkshire.

In the end we did manage to salvage a point, but it should have been all three in a quite amazing game at Valley Parade, that saw City's leading goalscorer dismissed for what must have been abusive language to the referee before half an hour was even on the clock.

There were a number of changes in the Wrexham line-up, including Armstrong and Llewellyn partnering each other up front for the Reds, while Alex Smith and Shaun Pejic were restored to the starting eleven.

Wrexham produced the first effort of the afternoon with Holt crossing in towards the near post, where Alex Smith backheelled the ball to the edge of the box with Levi Mackin being a little surprised that it was heading in his direction, snatching at his effort and pulling the shot wide.

Considering our disappointing result last time out, this was a much lively performance, although Zema Abbey had the ball in the net on 10 minutes, with the home fans celebrating, despite the fact that the striker had clearly handled the ball in the build-up, which the referee easily spotted!

Mark Bower made sure he brought down Armstrong as the striker moved round him on the edge of the box, the foul was given, but Ferguson's quick free was eventually cleared behind for a corner.

From the cross Lawrence lost his marker and on the edge of the six yard box directed a powerful header down, but at the near post Lewis Emanuel was able to hook it clear and avert the danger.

The Wrexham fans were in good voice at the opposite end of the ground and roaring their side forward.

A number of incidents which saw two arms thrown into the faces of Wrexham players, concluded on 26 minutes with Dean Windass fouling Smith from behind. A blatant foul which should have drawn a yellow card in itself, by Mr. Boyeson pulled Windass to one side and sent him straight off!

The former Hull and Aberdeen striker was furious and it took two Wrexham players to finally stop him from returning to confront the match official!

Meanwhile, Colin Todd and Llewellyn exchanged words on the sideline after Holloway had caught the Wrexham player in the face, a movement missed by the referee, and one which the City boss thought the Welshman at had over reacted.

Wrexham lifted the pace and forced Bradford onto the back foot as the home side went 3-4-2 in the wake of the sending off.

Roberts then sent up a long ball across field with Llewellyn cutting in to get a head to it, but he could only square the ball along the edge of the penalty and with no one in support the Bantams were able to scramble it away.

From a 40 minute throw in, Summerbee nutmegged Llewellyn and crossed from the right, but in the middle Roberts was able to turn Abbey and play the ball across his own goal to concede a corner.

Summerbee then once again caught Smith in the face with his arm, much to the disgust of Kevin Russell on the sidelines, who needed to be calmed down by his boss.

Whitley then escaped a red card having been booked earlier on, as with four minutes of the half remaining he pulled Morrison back by his shirt, but fortunately got away with a long telling off. Maybe the referee consider the original booking a little harsh!

The half ended with Holloway chopping Llewellyn down and the striker landing heavily on the defender, which, when the mayhem calmed down, earned both a yellow card!

The only change at the interval involved the officials swapping into green shirts, they had worn yellow in the first half, but they now clashed with the home keeper!

A throw in on 50 minutes from Holt was taken by Lawrence inside the City area, with his back to goal he slipped through a pass through for Llewellyn to beat the offside. Yet from eight yards the striker failed to score as keeper Paul Henderson pulled off a great save, although it was one he should never have had the opportunity to make!

Another neat build up saw Holt pull the ball back from the line to find Smith, but his first time effort ballooned up over the crossbar from 16-yards.

Then at the other end Morrison nipped through to pick up a defence splitting pass, forcing a great save from Dibble as the keeper came off his line, although the ball squirted up and bounced towards the goal. Roberts cut back and looked as if he had time to clear off the line, but in a scramble with Steven Schumacher the ball ended up in the back of the net.

There was a great chance for Armstrong on the hour, when Holt delivered a quality cross from the left and the ex-Spurs man rose to head on goal, but the ball passed inches wide of the back post.

This was the signal for Hector Sam to enter the action in place of Llewellyn as Denis Smith made the first of his allowed substitutions.

With 15 minutes remaining, Holt got on the end of a Ferguson cross, but his head, although just clearing Henderson's crossbar, was never in any danger of hitting the target.

There was then an opportunity for Juan Ugarte to make his mark, as he replaced midfielder Mackin, with the Reds going to a three-man front line.

A cross from the left was chested backwards by Armstrong, giving Whitley a sight of goal, but from 20-yards he pulled a shot wide of the diving Henderson.

A free kick from Ferguson, by his own corner flag, set Whitley away on the right, with the midfielder then spreading a ball out to Holt on the left. The wingback advanced some 20-yards before unleashing a shot that the keeper palmed away for a corner.

As the final seconds clocked off the giant scoreboard, Summerbee lunged in on Roberts inside the Bradford box, resulting on a  penalty award. It looked a little dubious from the sidelines, although those behind the goal had no doubt that contact was made, but then again - who cares!

After the dust had settled, up stepped a calm Chris Armstrong to send Henderson the wrong way and the Wrexham supporters danced in delight.

City swept forward to the opposite end in a desperate attempt to restore their lead and Morrison's long range effort forced Dibble into a diving save.

The final whistle blow after three minutes of added time and what in reality was a rather disappointing return of just one point, was greeted with acclaim by the travelling fans.

If we can use this rousing finish to lift us to a series of decent results in the weeks ahead, then it will have served its purpose, but we urgently need to find a cutting edge to our play.
