It was daylight robbery at Edgar Street as the Bulls picked Wrexham's pocket to grab the points and deny a Dragon's side that was much changed due to injury, illness and suspension - but had played so well, although failed to take advantage of numerous openings.

There was another surprise for the travelling fans before kick-off, when they saw the teamsheet and Darren Ferguson had only made it as far as the bench! So it was a very unusual looking starting eleven that prepared itself for a noon kick-off, which included the midfield pairing of Lee Roche and Matt Crowell.

Hereford also were suffering through illness with captain Rob Purdie sent home from the ground with a virus and his place in the line-up going to former Ipswich and Bournemouth midfielder Alan Connell.

The first action of the match went to the home side, when from 25-yards out Connell hit a first time shot that left Michael Ingham rooted to the spot and the keeper could only look over his shoulder as the ball struck the top of his crossbar before looping up and out of play.

A few nervy moments for Gareth Evans saw him slice an attempted clearance, although he recovered well to get the ball away and then when trying to let the ball run out of play he was forced into conceding a corner.

Matty Done started a great move on the left after 17 minutes when he set Llewellyn away and then raced to the edge of the home box for the return, which was duly supplied into his path, but his left footed effort lacked any menace when a goal was a real possibility.

Llewellyn then made the best of some good Wrexham pressure by getting possession some 20-yards out and fired in a low shot that had United keeper Wayne Brown scrambling to his right, but the effort passed inches wide of his target.

A Wrexham free kick on 22 minutes saw Crowell find the head of Evans, who knocked it down to Marc Williams some 12-yards out, but he sliced his chance with the ball falling to Llewellyn, who although flagged for being offside did force a good save out Brown.

Following a 'foul' by Evans on his own man Crowell, play restarted with the Reds attacking down the right and following a throw in Llewellyn unleashed a powerful effort from the edge of he box that saw Brown produced a good save to his left.

Wrexham were enjoying a good spell and shortly afterwards Llewellyn saw another long-range effort blocked by a defender as Josh Johnson and Done were finding space in which to operate on the flanks.

Llewellyn then picked the ball up in the United after 38 minutes, finding Marc Williams free to his left but the young striker's effort once gain lacked any penetration and Brown collected far more easily than he might have expected.

United immediately raced up field with Travis flying up the wing and as he raced to the line the wideman crossed into the middle for Alan Connell to side foot on goal and while Ingham did get a hand to the ball he could only push onto the back post and it rebounded into the net.

After missing with a previous effort, Crowell this time tried to place his effort from the edge of the box, it took a slight deflection and just looped around a post for another corner to the visitors.

Two changes at the interval for Wrexham with Lee McEvilly replacing Marc Williams, and Kevin Smith coming on for Josh Johnson, allowing Chris Llewellyn to switch to the right wing.

A freekick to Wrexham, following a foul by Phil Gulliver on McEvilly, saw a free kick by Crowell floated to the back post which Smith couldn't reach but it did carry through to Pejic, although the defender was probably a little surprised to receive it and could only poke it at Brown from a tight angle.

Smith then beat two men, turned and from 25-yards fired in a gret effort that clipped the top of a Hereford post, leaving the Scot holding his head in disappointment as t getting so close to a third strike in Wrexham colours.

More Wrexham pressure forced Mkandawire into conceding a corner on the hour and from Evans' flick on McEvilly forced Brown into spilling the ball before the ex-Chester keeper grabbed it safely at the second attempt as the rain came pouring down.

A spat between Llewellyn and Sills on 69 minutes saw the pair earn yellow cards from referee Mr Taylor.

The Wrexham man was then involved in the action seconds later as he cut in from the right flank and fired a shot that ended up in the side netting, but only due to the intervention of defender Phil Gulliver. From the resulting corner McEvilly got involved in the six-yard box, but

After a long period of possession Done finally crossed deep from the left and McEvilly rose to met the ball with his head, forcing another flying save from Brown, who was just able to tip it over for a corner on 76 minutes.

A cross from the opposite wing delivered by Spender, dropped over McEvilly but was only half cleared, it sat up for Llewellyn but he misjudge the bounce and sliced wide from 15-yards.

Wrexham were well on top and it was virtually all one-way traffic, with only the odd venture up field by the home side. But on 85 minutes, Sheldon found the goal at his mercy and just couldn't dig it out of the mud, firing across the nets and out for goalkick.

Wrexham gifted Hereford a second goal on 88 minutes when a poor pass at the back by Mike Williams was jumped on by who passed in from the left wing and Alan Connell was on hand to sweep the ball home from just inside the box - the type of chance we had been squandering all afternoon!

Denis Smith wil be thinking that there is little justice in football on afternoon's like this, when his threadbare side turned in a much improved performance but still came away with little to show for their efforts.
