On a beautiful afternoon at Sincil Bank the Reds turned in their best performance of 2007 and thoroughly deserved this excellent victory over play-off bound Lincoln - and it was no fluke but a firts class display.

With Neil Roberts missing out as his calf strain was still troubling the captain, only Danny Williams was available to return after suspension coming in for the injured Mark Jones, while there was a tactical switch with Chris Llewellyn gong to right midfield and Michael Proctor playing up front.

The visitors showed their attacking intention from the start and it wasn't long for efforts were being directed at the Lincoln goal, Jeff Whitley going closest.

A Wrexham corner on 17 minutes saw the Reds take a valuable lead when a corner from the left was floated to the corner of the six-yard box where Simon Spender, of all people, attacked the ball and saw his header beat a defender on the line.

The Red Imps responded with a shot from Ryan Amoo when a throw in was laid back to him 20-yards out by the veteran Jamie Forester.

On 25 minutes Llewellyn opened the home defence cutting into the box on the right and as he flicked the ball into the middle Michael Proctor caught the head of Nicky Eden as the defender dived in front of him to deny the striker a first goal.

A corner for the Dragons was played short to Llewellyn and his angled cross was met by Proctor, but he could only head over from eight-yards.

A long throw in from the right on 28 minutes bobbled around inside the home goalmouth and in the scramble it ended up in the back of the Lincoln City net and while Danny Williams claimed the goal for knocking the ball on, it could well have been a home defender who touched it last, probably Scott Kerr - but who really cares!

A minute later Lincoln curled a corner in from the left and it took a header by Proctor to clear it off the line at the back post as it almost beat everybody.

The home side raised their game during the final part of he first half as the locals in the crowd were voicing their displeasure, but the Wrexham defence was able to keep the ball away from Anthony Williams for the most part.

There was a booking for Kerr as the Imps committed another foul in midfield and referee Tony bates finally decided to produce his cards.

Lincoln came close to scoring on 43 minutes when Mayo drove to the crossed low into the six-yard box and as the diving Williams palmed the ball against the retreating Steve Evans, the ball bounced off the defender, who was captain for the day and just missed a post for a corner!

A double substitution by John Schofield at the interval saw Welshman Lee Beevers and midfielder Peter Holmes replaced by want away Paul Morgan and Dany N'Guessan.

A cross from Spender on the right went straight to the head of Lee McEvilly, who clamly picked his spot and headed inside the near post giving Alan Marriott no chance and sending the 245 travelling fans into wild delight.

Following a booking for Danny Williams on 63 minutes, the ball dropped kindly in the box for Lincoln for Hughes and just when you thought he would reduced the arrears with a shot on the run, Anthony Williams spread himself to somehow deflect the effort away for a corner.

A minute later patient build up by Llewellyn saw the international hit a long cross field ball to the unmarked Proctor who's first time effort was palmed away by Marriott for a corner. The flag kick was sent long for Steve Evans to leap at and while he got a good contact he was stretching his entire frame and knocked the ball just wide of the target.

With Lincoln now seemingly struggling to raise much enthusiasm for the game, Wrexham were tempted to push forward in search of a fourth goal. Matty Done in particular was finding space and enjoying his run out in the Lincolnshire sunshine.

City used their final substitute in the 73 minute with Junior Mendes coming on for the tiring Forrester

A few minutes later Whitley took the ball over the half way line and with McEvilly free to his right found the striker who's shot from outside the box crashed into the advertising hoardings.

A double switch bt Brian Carey saw the struggling Danny Williams given a well earned rest, while Done also departed with Levi Mackin and Mike Williams taking their places.

A poor clearance by Lincoln fell within range of Proctor and his first time lash at the ball saw it take a deflection and almost wrong footed Marriott, but the power of the shot was taken off it and the keeper was able to prevent further embarrassment for his side.

What a vital afternoon for the Reds!
