Two goals from Barnet's Liam Hatch saw Wrexham crash to another defeat at The Racecourse putting more pressure on manager Brian Carey.

With the last minute agony of Macclesfield still fresh in his mind Carey made four changes for the visit of Barnet. Michael Jones replaced Anthony Williams in goal, Gareth Evans back from loan at Northwich came in for the injured Danny Williams, Mike Williams and Silvio Spann being promoted from the bench for Shaun Pejic and the suspended Robbie Garrett.

On a fine autumnal afternoon in North Wales Barnet kicked off attacking the Kop end of the Racecourse but it was Wrexham who had the early territorial advantage, Silvio Spann having the game's first attempt at goal but was off target.

The Red Dragons first corner came on 6 minutes, Mark Jones effort was cleared to Chris Llewellyn but the Welsh international striker's shot was blocked on the edge of the area. In truth the opening spell was scrappy as both sides sparred for supremacy. The game almost sparked into life on 10 minutes when Liam Hatch's left foot volley from the edge of the area looped over the stranded Michael Jones but fortunately for Wrexham hit the top of the bar and went over.

The majority of the action in the opening 20 minutes was concentrated in the middle third of the field with little in the way of goalmouth action to entertain the crowd. Michael Proctor did put the ball in the net on 24 minutes but as had been the case on several occasions earlier in the half the assistant's flag was raised and the goal was disallowed. Barnet were playing a high defensive line and Proctor particularly was being caught.

As the half progressed Mark Jones was starting to have an influence with a couple of nice passes and he won a free kick on the half hour which caused momentary concern for the Barnet defence before it was cleared. Shortly after Michael Jones conceded a free kick on the edge of the area, given by the assistant there was some confusion as to why it was awarded but Wrexham defended it well enough and it came to nothing.

As the half looked like it was tamely petering out a good long range effort from a free kick by Silvio Spann on 45 minutes forced Barnet keeper Harrison into his first serious action of the half, the ball was parried back into the middle of the goal but no Wrexham player was following up and the ball was cleared.

Second Half

Wrexham introduced Eifion Williams at half time replacing Michael Proctor. Wrexham started the half with more urgency and a good break down the right by Simon Spender on 48 minutes saw him put a cross across the Barnet goal, it was begging for a finishing touch but no Wrexham player was in the area to apply it and the ball ran to safety.

A superb ball by Silvio Spann on 51 minutes released Spender again, the wing back cut in and tried to chip Harrison, his effort was weak though and it was an easy save for the Barnet keeper. The injection of the pace of Eifion Williams was causing the Barnet defence some concern.

On 56 minutes Barnet had a goal disallowed for a push by Liam Hatch, a real let off for Wrexham because Michael Jones had been rooted to his line as the striker headed home from 8 yards. The reprieve was only temporary however as Liam Hatch slid the ball home from close range from a low cross from Ashley Carew only two minutes later to give the visitors the lead.

Marc Williams came on with 64 minutes gone to replace Neil Roberts as Brian Carey shuffled his pack in an attempt to get back into the game. Matty Done came on 2 minutes later to replace Mike Williams as Wrexham went to a flat back four.

Disaster struck on 68 minutes when Michael Jones was caught off his line trying to head the ball clear, he hesitated and it bounced off Simon Spender allowing Liam Hatch to follow up and fire into the empty net, a real comedy of errors for Wrexham.

Simon Spender was awarded the first yellow card for a foul on Puncheon with 16 minutes left.

Wrexham, to their credit, kept pushing forward and a long range Mark Jones shot was held by Harrison with 13 minutes left. There was little in the way of inspiration though and the Barnet defence was able to easily deal with the lacklustre Red Dragons attack. Barnet brought on Grazioli for Birchall with 4 minutes left.

A poor back pass by Carew needlessly conceded a corner on 87 minute. Silvio Spann's corner was sliced up in the air by a Barnet defender and Hope and Marc Williams tried to force the ball over the line in a goalmouth scramble, Barnet held firm however and the ball was cleared.

As we entered three minutes added time Barnet replaced goal scoring hero Hatch with Stephene Seanla. Eifion Williams went desperately close to reducing the deficit but his effort was saved by Harrison's legs.

As the referee's whistle signalled the end of yet another home defeat the crowd again voiced their displeasure with a chorus of boos.
