The goal shy Red Dragons failed to score at The Racecourse again but at least on this occasion a much improved and spirited performance earned them a valuable point in their battle against relegation.

With only three goals at home in the League this season Brian Carey again shuffled his pack and made three changes from the derby defeat against Shrewsbury. Silvio Spann returned from suspension, Matty Done started with Chris Llewellyn moving up front to partner Eifion Williams and Gareth Evans came in at centre back.

On a fine evening in North Wales, Wrexham kicked off attacking the Eric Roberts end of the ground. An early move involving Eifion Williams and Chris Llewellyn gave the sparsely populated Racecourse some excitement but came to nothing. The game took a little while to get going as both sides adopted a cautious approach and Mr Moss's whistle was heard all too often in the opening 10 minutes.

Silvio Spann was booked on 15 minutes for what Mr Moss interpreted as a two footed tackle. A minute later Matty Collins put Matty Done clear but the winger delayed and was blocked out at the expense of a corner which Wycombe easily cleared. At this stage the football was not of great quality and with such a low attendance the atmosphere was flat.

With 21 minutes gone Chris Llewellyn looked to break clear and was clearly held back by a Wycombe defender, Mr Moss appeared to be the only person in the ground who did not see it as such and waved play on. Two minutes later after a good passing move Silvio Spann had a shot blocked and as Wrexham kept the pressure up Matty Done was brought down in the area by Russell Martin. Ryan Valentine's penalty was saved by Frank Fielding diving to his right, in truth the full back did not strike the ball that well but it still had to be saved.

Wycombe attacked and Richard Hope did well to block a goal bound effort which would have really added salt to the wounds. Matty Collins was booked on 27 minutes for a foul on Torres and two minutes later Russell Martin joined him for a body check on Matty Done.

Wrexham were starting to play with more confidence as the half progressed and put together a couple of nice passing moves. Matty Done was starting to get more space and on 34 minutes had a good run down the left and fired in a left foot shot which was blocked. Wrexham got the ball into Eifion Williams and he fired over on the turn from 15 yards. With five minutes of the half left Eifion Williams did well to set up Spann but his first time effort was screwed well wide of the goal.

The Red Dragons were certainly dominating territorially now as we went into two minutes added time, again though we had not turned possession into goals as the half ended 0-0.

Second Half

Wycombe replaced Antwi with Leon Johnson at half time and kicked off attacking the Eric Roberts stand. Wrexham again started brightly and Matty Done had an early run. Eifion Williams did well on 48 minutes and fired in a shot which Fielding had to save, it was good to see a Wrexham striker working the opposition goalkeeper. Wycombe were pushing forward and leaving gaps for Wrexham to exploit in the opening minutes of the second half.

The visitors had a good spell of play and pressed Wrexham back. They did not create any clear opportunities although a couple of Tom Williams' corners did cause concern for the Reds defence. Wycombe were now looking the likelier side and Rueben Reid fired a good low cross into the Wrexham area.

With 62 minutes gone another Williams' corner was taken short, it was crossed in and fell to Dave McCracken who skied it over the bar from 12 yards. Wrexham were struggling to get into the second half as Wycombe seemed to have stepped up a gear after the break.

Wrexham's first substitution came on 69 minutes with Marc Williams replacing Eifion Williams.

Richard Hope conceded a free kick on 73 minutes, 20 yards out it was taken by Tom Williams and curled over the Wrexham bar. Michael Proctor then joined the action replacing the ineffective Spann.

With 12 minutes left Michael Proctor picked up a poor Fielding clearance and from 55 yards and by the touchline under the Mold Road stand put in a good effort trying to catch the keeper off his line, unfortunately it cleared the bar and bounced onto the sparsely populated Kop. Matty Done limped off to be replaced by Neil Taylor with 10 minutes left.

Wrexham appeared to have found a second wind, and with the crowd getting behind them, pushed forward looking for the vital goal. Wycombe responded by bringing on John Sutton for Scott McGleish with 6 minutes left. Two minutes later they made the final change with Sam Stockley replacing Russell Martin.

With two minutes left Robbie Garrett was upended on the edge of the box but Michael Proctor put the resultant free kick over the bar.

The referee added three minutes on and Rueben Reid forced Anthony Williams into a smart save, the resultant corner was not cleared and Reid again made the Wrexham keeper work to keep the score goalless.
