Huge relief all around as The Racecourse ground celebrated it's 200th birthday with three very welcome points as Marc Williams superb strike earned the Red Dragons their second win of the season.

Loan signing Robbie Garrett came straight into the starting line up for the visit of fellow strugglers Lincoln City as Brian Carey made three changes from the side beaten at Stockport last Saturday. In addition to Garrett Matt Crowell and Neil Roberts returned to the side as Wrexham looked to move off the bottom of the league.

On an overcast afternoon in North Wales Lincoln kicked off attacking the Kop end of the ground as both sides sparred for an early opening.

With five minutes gone Lincoln won the first corner however the referee spotted a foul on a Wrexham defender and the danger passed. A good break by Robbie Garrett won Wrexham a corner which was taken by Matt Crowell and headed goalwards by Richard Hope but as the header was into the ground it easily held by Marriott.

With both sides playing a 3-5-2 formation the midfield was very congested but a good run by Mark Jones won a free kick on the edge of the area with 11 minutes gone. Crowell took the free kick but the wall did its job and in truth it was not a great effort from the Wrexham midfielder. At the other end Lincoln were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, it was a well worked move but Croft's shot was deflected for a corner.

Matt Crowell swung a free kick over on the quarter of an hour and Marc Williams made a good run to get his head on the ball but unfortunately put his effort well wide. Two minutes later Marc Williams went down in the area and Mr East awarded Wrexham a penalty. Lincoln keeper Alan Marriott went full stretch to his right to superbly save Neil Roberts effort by the foot of his post.

Mike Carvill fired an effort wide from 20 yards with 24 minutes gone as Wrexham looked to break down a determined Lincoln defence. Wrexham were doing most of the pressing but lacked the final ball. The first booking came on 29 minutes when Louis Dodds tripped Mark Jones.

On 31 minutes a good cross by Mark Jones found Marc Williams at the far post, but again the header lacked power and was easily held by Marriott. Robbie Garrett shot well wide on 35 minutes but it was still Wrexham who were looking the likelier side. Another delightful ball from Mark Jones saw Neil Roberts win a corner which Matt Crowell took and as the ball bounced around the area Neil Roberts blasted it well over the bar.

Lincoln replaced the injured Dodds with Lee Frecklington with 38 minutes on the clock. Soon after Mark Stallard was booked for yet another foul on Mark Jones, who was showing signs of getting back to some sort of form. From the free kick Steve Evans knocked it down and Marc Williams blasted the ball well over the bar.

Wrexham kept the pressure up on the Lincoln defence but apart from the penalty Alan Marriott had not been tested as the home side's finishing was poor. As we went into two minutes added time Lincoln in a rare attack won a couple of corners but could not manufacture a scoring opportunity either and the half ended goalless.

Second Half

No changes to personnel at the break as Wrexham kicked off the second half. With only two minutes of the half gone Mark Stallard got into the area and hit a left foot shot which Anthony Williams did well to parry and Wrexham cleared the ball. Lincoln were certainly showing more attacking ideas at the start of the half as the sun came out at The Racecourse.

On 50 minutes after a patient build up Marc Williams controlled the ball well on his chest, turned and curled a great shot passed Alan Marriott for Wrexham's first goal at home since the win against Morecambe 5 games ago!It was worth the wait a brilliant goal.

Wrexham were playing with more confidence now and the passing was a lot crisper. Gary Croft was booked for a foul on the lively Mike Carvill.

Mark Jones hit a crisp effort on goal on 57 minutes, Marriott catching it above his head. Mike Carvill then went on another good run down the right wing and was brought down again by Gary Croft who saw his second yellow card, followed by the inevitable red.

Marc Williams was denied his second goal by a great tackle by Lee Beevers after a good move down the left by Mark Jones a dummy by Neil Roberts but the young striker just took too long in front of goal and Beevers blocked. Ex Chester player Jamie Hand left Neil Taylor stretched out on the pitch with a tackle that incensed the Wrexham players, but Mr East took no action.

Mark Jones was playing with far more confidence than of late and fired another effort in on goal with 68 minutes gone. It was over the bar however.

Lincoln replaced Forrester with Oliver Ryan with 20 minutes left. They won a corner which Wrexham cleared to Mark Jones, he held the ball up well, passed it to Garrett whose square pass was blasted high and wide by Marc Williams in a superb Wrexham break. Marc Williams had another chance on 75 minutes but again put his effort wide after another good cross by Mark Jones.

The visitors were not giving up and won a free kick conceded by Garrett on the edge of the area. Hand blasted it straight into the wall. Lincoln made their final change on 79 minutes with N'Guessan replacing Moses as they pressed forward looking for the equaliser.

Matty Done came on for Wrexham with nine minutes left replacing Neil Taylor who was still feeling the effects of Hand's tackle.

Wrexham were conceding several free kicks in dangerous positions but fortunately Lincoln did not test Anthony Williams with any of them with some poor deliveries. The tension was tangible however as Wrexham were pushed back by Lincoln despite the man advantage. With three minutes left a Kerr corner was headed goalwards and cleared off the line by Carvill as Wrexham scrambled the ball clear with Green looking to force the ball home from close range.

Brian Carey looking to relieve the pressure on his nervy side replaced Neil Roberts with Josh Johnson. Matty Done caused some concern for Lincoln and Marriott did well to clear his fierce cross.

Four minutes added time at the end of the half with Wrexham defending desperately and breaking away whenever they could. Robbie Garrett was booked for dissent after being penalised for what looked like a good tackle and showing his frustration. Josh Johnson had a chance on the break but got the ball caught in his feet and his shot was deflected for a corner. The referee's whistle brought huge relief to the Wrexham fans at The Racecourse with three very welcome points for the Dragons.
