What a difference a few days makes as a rampant Red Dragons side refused to allow Accrington Stanley, fresh from a morale boosting 3-0 victory at Bradford City, to settle and deservedly ran out comfortable 2-0 victors at the Fraser Eagle Stadium.
Around 500 noisy fans made the trip up to Accrington and really got behind the team from the first whistle. Their support just showed that despite some poor results of late, there is still plenty of faith in the players, and it was certainly rewarded in fine style, as Neil Roberts converted two excellent finishes to wrap up the points.
With two awful results against Stanley last season, including a 5-0 hammering a year ago on this ground, tonight's performance and victory went someway towards erasing the bad memories of 2006/07.
Brian Carey again ring the changes, with recalls for Simon Spender, Shaun Pejic, Chris Llewellyn and Michael Proctor, while Mike Carvill, Steve Evans, Matty Crowell and the injured Marc Williams all made way.
This match also marked the 250th League game of Anthony William's career.
Accrington were also forced into making changes, with former Shrewsbury keeper Ian Dunbavin replacing Arthur Kenny in goal after the Scottish keeper had broken a leg in midweek.
A pretty even start to the game saw no real chances, until the 12th minute when a corner by Mark Jones found the head of Danny Williams only for the defenders effort to strike the inside of the post before being cleared of the line by a Stanley defender.
With Wrexham dominated thereafter, it came as no surprise when the deadlock was broken in the 37th minute. A move down the left so the ball come to Chris Llewellyn, who's shot was blocked on the edge of the area, but fell kindly to Neil Roberts, who instantly side footed the ball past the dive of Dunbavin from 20-yards, to notch up the 50th league goal of his career.
The home side had rarely threatened before the goal, but within a couple of minutes Andy Proctor headed wide of Williams' goal from a corner.
The half time break saw Brian Carey forced into a substitution as the injured Danny Williams had to be replaced by Steve Evans, but it caused no disruption to the side, as they started the half as they left the previous half.
The lead was nearly doubled in the 59th minute, Neil Taylor's cross found the head of Michael Proctor, but he could only direct his effort at Dunbavin. David Brown then had a site on goal, but the ex-Chester striker could only shoot straight at Williams.
Then in the 66th minute, Anthony Williams' long punt up field was flicked on to Mark Jones, and his cross from the right found the unmarked Neil Roberts, who side footed in on the volley from six yards to double the lead.
That strike brought about instant changes from the host's, which included the appearance of Lee McEvilly from the bench, in attempt to claw their way back into the game, and the former Wrexham striker immediately had an effort straight at Williams' before heading another chance wide.
Still the Red Dragon's pushed on, searching for a third goal, and it nearly came when Spender's through ball found Jones, who tried to lift the ball over the keeper from an angle, but with the keeper rushing out, the ball struck Dunbavin in the face before cleared away to safety.
With time running out, chances still came with Dunbavin saving a free kick from Proctor and also pushing a 25-yard effort round the post from Robbie Garrett.
