ON a wild and wooly afternoon in West London, Wrexham succumed to a Bees team that had won only once in their previous seven games.
It was fully 20 minutes before either side could muster an effort on goal, that fell to Ricky Shakes who blazed over when well placed jus six-yards out.
Wrexham fans high in the visiting supporters stand had to wait for the half hour mark before they saw anything of note at their end of the ground, then it was a speculative effort from Michael Proctor which never really worried Simon Brown in the home goal.
The Bees then lost midfielder Gary Smith, who had clashed with Drewe Broughton earlier in the game, but seemed to be suffering from bruised ribs as he was replaced by John Mousinho.
Four minutes later Brentford took the lead through a Ricky Shakes header, after Gavin Ward had saved Alan Connell's first shot. The move started with Simon Spender sending a ling throw in up field, but the ball came straight back and the visitors failed to deal with the danger as it bobbled around
It was the full back who as almost the unlikely source of an equaliser when his 40-yard free kick bounced over Michael Procter and with keeper Brown failing to realise the danger the ball bounced onto the cross bar and in the ensuing melee Brown three times was forced to punch clear.
Another free kick on 40 minutes, saw Phil Bolland win his header against the keeper, but the ball would only drop onto the roof of the net.
As the snow fell down on Griffin Park the Dragons almost equalised at the start of the second half, when Spender's cross was touched on by a Brentford defender but Brown gathered the ball on the line.
Broughton placed a header comfortably into the arms of Brown as we tried to claw ourselves back into the match, but the Bees almost caught Wrexham cold on the break when Shakes' cross was headed wide by Nathan Elder.
Little made a double substitution after 66 minutes when he brought on Paul Hall and Matty Done for Sonner and Neil Roberts.
The Dragons came within a whisker of equalising after 75 minutes when the jittery Brown spilled a shot and Proctor drove through a crowded area only for the goalkeeper to push the effort away.
Ricky Shakes was on hand after 81 minutes to grab his second and complete Wrexham's misery, when we failed to clear a throw in from the right and after some head tennis the ball dropped to the winger, who lashed home his shot on the angle.
This defeat keeps the Dragons six points from safety, ahead of a massive clash with Dagenham & Redbridge on Monday.
