IT didn't start too well - but it finished just the way we wanted it to!

Nine points out of nine for Deano, as he once again encourages his side to take the game to their hosts, but it might have been a different story had the players lifted themselves after an awful slip let in new loan signing Emile Sinclair for the opening goal.

But bounce back we did and it was a Williams double - with goals from Mike and Marc - that sealed the outcome.

On five minutes, Marc Williams took a high ball from Levi Mackin on the edge of the home box and was bundled to the ground from behind by Maxime Chanot for a free kick. It could and should have been worse for the Frenchman, but referee Mr Curry seemed happy to not award any further punishment when the Wrexham striker was through on goal.

In the end, Wes Baynes' effort from 20-yards hammered into the home wall and was eventually cleared by the Stags.

Shortly afterwards the Reds were awarded another set piece when Michael Proctor was fouled from behind by Chanot, this time Joe Allen's free kick curled over the wall but was grabbed by keeper Paddy Gamble at the base of his right hand post.

There was then a booking for Baynes on 13 minutes, when he tackled Michael Blackwood, which seemed a little harsh considering the referee's previous decisions not to go for his cards!

A frantic period of play followed with neither side able to really stamp any authority onto the match.

An ankle injury to Carl Tremarco saw the full back try to shake off the knock, but after he failed, on came Silvio Spann, with Neil Taylor dropping back to the defensive role.

The Reds nearly broke the deadlock when a quick free kick on 25 minutes found Marc Williams on the edge of the box, but his effort was knocked behind for a corner

Then from the resulting flag kick, Mansfield went straight up to the other end as Wrexham had got caught short of bodies after Brown lost possession, and on his debut Emile Sinclair ran virtually the length of the field to score.

It was a goal which the Dragons could still have avoided, as Spann stepped across Sinclair to take ball off him, but then hit a poor back pass allowing the striker to regain control, side stepping around Gavin Ward and rollinghis effort into an empty net.

Then on 32 minutes the visitors were back into the game, when a Baynes corner was delivered to the edge of the six yard box and Mike Williams only had to get his head to the ball and it was in the back of the net.

Such was the quality of the cross that the Wrexham players all headed to Baynes, rather than the goalscorer - despite it being his first for the Dragons.

There was almost a second two minutes later, when Marc broke clear and from an angle was caught in two minutes whether to pass to the unmarked Spann or chip the keeper - which just allowed full back Alex Jeannin to cover back and make the saving tackle.

The Reds were well on top and when Taylor crossed from the left flank, Proctor created space for himself and with a free header from eight yards aimed his effort to the far post, where it beat the keeper but also the woodwork.

Chanot was finally booked after a series of fouls on Williams, with 41 minutes on the clock.

The Stags did hit back with a dangerous attack of their own a minute before the break, which finished with full back Gary Silk delivering an inviting pass across the face of the Wrexham goal, but no yellow shirts were on hand to take advantage.

The home side were first to show following the interval and some hesitation in the Welshmen's ranks allowed Gavin Hurren to barge through, but his effort was wide of the target.

Wrexham had a good break on 55 minutes when Spann made the midfield parted in front of him, his pass out to Brown saw the ex-Mansfield man in space but he was tackled, allowing Allen to pick up the pieces. The youngsters drove to the line and his cross was put behind for a corner.

Great work by Proctor created the chance for Marc Williams to put Wrexham in front on 57 minutes, but the U21 international had plenty to do. He held off Chanot inside the six-yard box to get a better angle and then crashed his shot into the net before the travelling fans.

The home side made a change on 61 minutes when Jason Lee replaced another veteran forward in Mark Stallard.

With Mansfield lifting the pace, Dragons manager Dean Saunders withdrew Brown on 66 minutes, pushing Taylor back into midfield and on came Steve Evans to partner Westwood at the heart of defence.

On a Wrexham attack, Marc Williams was chasing a lost cause by the corner flag and was taken out by Chanot, who conceded the free kick when knocking the striker into the advertising boards, but the defender continued his charmed life as a second yellow card was not produced.

A head injury to Mike Williams saw him down in the centre circle and then finally replaced by Sam Aiston on 76 minutes, with the centre half being helped to the dressing rooms by the Mansfield doctor.

The Reds then produced the best move of the game on 77 minutes, when a great 40-yard pass by Allen picked out Spann on the far flank, he laid the ball off to Baynes and the defender's cross was met by Proctor just six-yards out, but keeper Gamble palmed the shot away for a corner with a full length save.

A final throw of the dice from Mansfield saw striker Antony Robinson on for Chanot, and soon afterwards a shot by the Stags was deflected away by Taylor, with screams for a penalty as the ball seemed to strike the defender's arm.

Taylor was again in the wars soon afterwards, when he cleared a dangerous cross, but in stretching hurt his leg and required treatment.

As the game approached the end of the 90 minutes, the Reds were doing a decent job of running down the clock and keeping possession deep in the Mansfield half.

The final whistle signalled a huge three points for the visitors and the big away support could breathe a sigh of relief after nearly six minutes of added time had been played.
