Wrexham convincingly defeated one of the pre season promotion favourites with a good all round team performance topped with three goals and a clean sheet to boot.
As Wrexham returned home desperately needing a victory to ignite a push up the league table Dean Saunders made five changes from the side beaten at Cambridge on Saturday.
With Ashley Westwood injured Frank Sinclair returned from suspension whilst Andy Fleming, Silvio Spann, Marc Williams and Christian Smith all started for the Dragons.
With the Gresford Colliery memorial service completed Wrexham kicked off attacking the ERS end on a mild evening in North Wales.
With Wrexham looking happier with a 4-4-2 formation they made a bright start and had a couple of half chances before on 5 minutes Claude Gnakpa obstructed Marc Williams in the area and from the resultant penalty Gareth Taylor sent Tyler the wrong way to give the home side the lead.
In a competitive first half both sides pressed forward and Liam Hatch headed home a Newton cross only for the effort to be ruled out for a foul by the striker on Assoumani.
Wrexham immediately took advantage of this let off and Gareth Taylor headed home his second from a Silvio Spann free kick with 21 minutes on the clock.
The play was primarily concentrated in the middle third of the field and was to be truthful a little scrappy. Luton players Gallen and Hatch were booked by referee Marchant in separate incidents.
Gareth Taylor was proving a real handful and showed his class when he set up a Neil Taylor run which resulted in Mark Jones shot being deflected wide for a corner.
The Dragons put together a good spell of pressure and the Hatters defence had to be on their mettle to clear a couple of good deliveries from Spann corners.
With 40 minutes gone the referee limped off to be replaced by his senior assistant and almost immediately George Pilkington put a header over Maxwell's bar. Despite four added minutes there was no further incident and Wrexham led at the break.
Half Time : Wrexham 2 Luton Town 0
With no changes in personnel at the break the visitors kicked off but it was the home side that almost scored when a long throw from Curtis Obeng was not cleared effectively and Mark Jones fired a low shot just wide.
Obeng was causing all sorts of problems for the Hatters defence with his pace and energy but all too often his delivery was not as good as it could have been. It was Obeng, however, who went close with a header on 58 minutes from a Jones cross.
In an end to end game both sides were going all out but the quality in the final third was sometimes poor. Marc Williams should have made it three on 75 minutes when Andy Fleming's shot was partially blocked and looped up to the young striker but his header went wide.
Saunders made a change soon after as Lamine Sakho came on for the impressive Gareth Taylor and it was Sakho who set up Marc Williams for a fine shot which was held by Tyler.
The Reds put the icing on the cake with 5 minutes left when great pressure by Obeng and Jones caused panic in the Luton defence and Mark Jones slide home his first goal of the season to put Wrexham 3-0 up.
With four minutes added time it was the Dragons who finished the stronger and Tyler had to save bravely from the lively Curtis Obeng. The final whistle blew shortly afterwards and it was a welcome three points for Dean Saunders men.
