AGAINST the home form team in the division this was a deserved point from a hard working display that will have warmed the hearts of those who travelled to watch the Dragons.

Alright Stevenage missed a good number of chances, but you earn your  luck in footballl and Dean Saunders' men did just that tonight.

It was an unchanged line-up for Wrexham, although Ashley Westwood was on the bench instead of Hedi Taboubi, as Deano was worried about Mani's fitness. While the home side brought in goal scoring substitute Chris Beardsley for Adam Drury.

Wrexham's first effort came after just three minutes when Christian Smith won the ball in midfield and fed Jamie McCluskey. The Scot running some 25-yards before unleashing a shot from distance that goalkeeper Chris Day did well to gather, as the rain fell on the Lamex Stadium.

There was a clash of heads involving Frank Sinclair on 15 minutes and the Wrexham man was sent to the sidelines for treatment to a bleeding nose.

After Smith was booked for a foul on 20 minutes, the free kick was played deep into the Wrexham box and Charlie Griffin was lurking to force a decent save out of Chris Maxwell with his angled drive.

From a long clearance by Day in the Borough goal, Maxwell was forced to come through traffic to collect the high bouncing ball and took a worrying knock for his troubles - although he held onto it!

There was another booking for Wrexham on 28 minutes, as Gareth Taylor was booked for a clash with Scott Laird. The resulting free kick from the half way line was directed at Griffin, but his header was off narrowly target, although Beardsley was close to getting a vital touch just six-yards out.

A substitution for the Dragons on 34 minutes, saw Mike Williams sent on for Neil Taylor in what was a tactical move to try and avert the danger posed by Griffin.

Boro made a change at the break with Mitchell Cole replacing Chris Beardsley and then on 52 minutes, John Ashton was sent on for Darren Murphy, as the game struggled to find any shape.

A long ball over the head of Sinclair allowed former Oxford man Yemi Odubade to break on the right, but Maxwell stood up and save a shot straight at him.

On 59 minutes, another long ball cut out Sinclair and as Odubade raced away, he looked up to pick out the available Joel Byrom approaching through the middle, but the ex-Northwich midfielder fired horribly wide with only Maxwell to beat.

The Wales U21 keeper had to be alert again on 65 minutes, when he stuck out a foot to clear a low cross from Ronnie Bull, fortunately there were no Boro shirts in evidence to take advantage as the ball flew down field.

Play switched quickly to the other end, as Marc Williams latched onto a through ball and tested Day with a dipping effort that the keeper palmed away for a corner.

With Wrexham players appealing for a foul on Obeng near the halfway line, Odubade was clear once again, but this time his chip over the advancing Maxwell trickled wide of the far post.

Stevenage were lifting the pace and Wrexham were struggling to deal with their speed, as balls over the top stretched the visitors' back line.

It was time for Adrian Cieslewicz to replace McCluskey on 75 minutes and inject an outlet at the opposite end of the pitch.

Borough striker Griffin was the next to be guilty of squandering a guilt edged chance, when following a corner he blazed over the crossbar from just eight yards out.

The home side made their final change when Peter Vincenti came on for the impressive Brough in midfield, with seven minutes remaining.

A quick Wrexham break through Cieslewicz saw Smith's shot deflected for a corner that was aimed at Mani, but was flicked away to safety.

Wrexham were suddenly on the up and after another attack the ball came back to Andy Fleming, whose shot from distance slammed into an advertising board behind Day's goal.

It was next Marc's turn to break away and his left footed shot was knocked behind for a corner as the clock counted down to 90 minutes.

Three minutes of added were indicated, but couldn't provide that vital deciding goal.
