IT was a much improved display by the Dragons, as they looked to shake off the disappointment of last week's showing against Hayes & Yeading.

While the need for goals and wins is there for all to see, at least we went one better than last season's two fixtures with the Stutes and finally picked a point of the village club.

Both Frank Sinclair and Marc Williams were recalled as Sakho started his suspension and Silvio Spann injured.

Ashley Westwood was at right back and Curtis Obeng pushed into midfield, with Wes Baynes on the left.

The first booking of the afternoon went against Andy Fleming, who was cautioned for kicking the ball away at a free kick.

On 16 minutes, Histon twice went close to scoring from set pieces, as first Chris Maxwell saved from Nat Knight-Percival's 8-yard header, tipping the ball over the cross bar for a corner.

The flag kick was delivered deep and only Jamie Barker reacted with a free header that scrapped the outside of Maxi's right hand post!

After 26 minutes, Gareth Taylor headed on for Marc Williams to break through, but twice keeper Danny Naisbett got the better of the flame haired striker.

The ball was then sent straight down the end and it forced Maxwell to race out of his area and head up field. The clearance fell to the feet to Spurs loanee Sam Cox, but his attempted lob from 40-yards at the empty goal was well off target.

Wrexham were enjoying a period of superiority with Williams again seeing another shot blocked and Taylor going down in the box amid shouts for a penalty that fell on deaf ears.

Twice Mike Williams drove low crosses from the left that were twice cleared from inside the 6-yard box, the second at the expense of a corner, that Sinclair got a head to but no more.

More good approach play by the visitors opened up to a chance when Baynes cut on to his right foot and tried his luck from distance.

Ht 0-0

There was an early stoppage in the play as Smith was pole axed in a challenge and needed some treatment before play could resume.

Youngster Cox was booked after fouling Marc Williams and was immediately substituted Bradley Hudson-Obi.

Wrexham made a change on 65 minutes when Adrian Cieslewicz is sent on for Obeng.

Dragons went back on the attack with a Smith cross being deflected onto the roof of the home goal as keeper Naisbett back peddled.

Mike Williams

A long run by Knight-Percival ended with the midfielder pulling his shot wide as Mani closed him down on 72 minutes. Shortly afterwards Sinclair has to close Barker down on the edge of the box as Histon threatened more.

With 10 minutes remaining, Histon replaced the impressive John Kennedy with Billy Crook.

Two efforts from Fleming, one deflected the other tipped over by the keeper, ended with Cieslewicz's corner being headed over from seven yards by Westwood.

There was a booking for Mani on 85 minutes when he brought down Larne Oyebanjo in mid-flight on the edge of the visitors' box.

Gwillim's free kick cleared the defending wall and was well held by Maxwell.

Into added time, Cieslewicz's break down the right was squared for Marc Williams, who laid off for Taylor to shot, but he pulled his effort off target from the edge of the box.

While neither side will have been satisfied by today's outcome, it was step up from seven days earlier.
