THIS was a decent display by the Dragons, but we were undone by two headers despite Andy Fleming giving us some hope with a rare goal - his first in the senior side.
There was plenty of football from the Reds, but for all their hardwork little in the way of goal chances. during the first hour of play.
This changed in the final third of the game, but York were just happy to sit back at that stage and soak up the pressure.
Wrexham found themselves a goal behind after just six minutes, when Chris Carruthers was given a free header at the back post, following a Richard Brodie cross from the right wing.
Right back Curtis Obeng was fuming, claiming he had been pushed to the ground by Carruthers in the build up, but his protests fell on deaf ears.
This sparked the visitors into life and they headed up field with purpose, putting the home goal under sustained pressure.
First a Wes Baynes free kick was headed behind for a corner and then Gareth Taylor was off target with a header inside the box as the white shirts swarmed in and around Michael Ingham's box.
Another Baynes set piece from 25-yards was charged down and City showed their ability to create a fast break, with Brodie chasing lost causes in an effort to get the ball back.
On 25 minutes, Taylor took as Baynes cross on his chest and fired goal wards, but his effort was deflected away for a corner.
City's usual tactic was a long ball through the middle which both Brodie and Rankine were willing to chase.
A clever Levi Mackin back heel at a City free kick 20-yards out, allowed Carruthers a clear shot, but his effort flew a yard or two wide of Maxwell's right hand post.
Sakho was booked for nasty looking tackle on David McGurk after 38 minutes, although the centre half was soon back on his feet and jogging to the sidelines.
At one end of the pitch Luke Graham held off Sakho in the home penalty area and then the ball was delivered straight to the other end, where Sinclair kept Brodie off the ball with the City man claiming a spot kick!
Sinclair became our second caution of the afternoon for dumping Brodie to the ground on the half way line in added time.
Ht 1-0
Wrexham did have the ball in the net after just three minutes of the restart, but a linesman's flag denied Gareth Taylor an equaliser, offside was the decision. Probably right, but close nevertheless!
Brodie, who had been awarded the BSP Player of the Month award for November, was a constant thorn and on 51 minutes he turned Mani before firing just wide.
Wrexham forced Ingham into his first save on 56 minutes when Gareth's header on allowed Neil a sight of goal, but form 20-yards the Irish keeper was hardly troubled.
A few minutes later Sakho's effort certainly packed more of a punch, but it was straight at Ingham and he took it comfortably enough.
The pressure was rising on the home goal and it took a flying save from Ingham to deny a Baynes special that was heading for the top corner of the City net after 68 minutes.
Saunders made his first change by bringing on Adrian Cieslewicz for Neil Taylor with 20 minutes remaining.
City's strength in attacking options was illustrated on 79 minutes as Michael Gash was sent on for Rankine.
The home side doubled their lead on 81 minutes, as from Maxi's save off a shot, Richard Brodie headed the rebound into an exposed net.
The striker was then booked for his celebrations, which involved goading the travelling fans.
Less then a minute later and Andy Fleming hit back immediately when he flicked the ball home at the near post from a low Obeng ball.
Mike Williams went close with a header late on, but Wrexham's decent display failed to get them the point that they at least deserved.
