A battling performance by Tamworth saw them frustrate Wrexham and leave The Racecourse with a point from a goalless draw.
After the defeat at Eastbourne on Saturday Dean Saunders made just one changes as he looked to get the Red Dragons back on track with Nathan Fairhurst replacing Mark Jones in the starting line-up.
On a bitterly cold evening in North Wales, Wrexham kicked off attacking the ERS end of The Racecourse and made a bright start with Luke Holden drilling a left foot effort over the bar. Tamworth set themselves up in a clear 4-5-1 formation designed to frustrate Wrexham and deny them space.
On three minutes, Sam Russell tipped a Christie effort over the bar but the visitors in the main were happy to sit and keep their shape leaving Wrexham to shoot from long range as Mangan did on 6 minutes.
Wrexham initially seemed content to keep the ball and try and draw out the Lambs but they soon started to get impatient and give the ball away too often.
Jay Smith was looking lively down the Tamworth left and fired an effort wide of the target. The game fell into a stalemate although a fine break by Fleming from midfield showed the way and resulted in Holden's shot being blocked.
Fleming was working tirelessly in a packed midfield area but the Red Dragons were struggling to create any sort of meaningful opportunity and Danny Alcock in the Tamworth goal was not troubled in the first half.
Andy Fleming was booked on 40 minutes and from the resultant free kick Briscoe headed wide whilst at the other end in stoppage time Alcock tipped a Holden free kick to safety.
Half Time: Wrexham 0 Tamworth 0
With no changes in personnel at the break Wrexham started the second half brightly and dominated the early play in the second half.
The visitors however stuck to their game plan and almost took the lead on 53 minutes when centre back Chris Smith volleyed wide from a good position following a poor defensive header from Assoumani.
Tamworth grew in confidence as the half progressed and ex Dragon Michael Blackwood fired in a low effort which Russell held.
The game was scrappy in truth with Wrexham's delivery in the final third a little disappointing. Wes Baynes did have a chance on 72 minutes when his shot was deflected wide.
Lambs boss Gary Mills made a couple of changes with twenty odd minutes to go and looked to catch Wrexham on the break and they did look the likelier side for a while.
With five minutes left a lovely flick by Andy Mangan set up Wes Baynes who drilled his effort over the bar from 20 yards out and that was really the end of the action with the crowd showing their displeasure at the scrappy fayre at the end..
