EACH spring the Football League send round a form which asks for any dates on which you would like to avoid a home game in the coming season, plus any club you would like to be paired with, so you alternate your home fixtures with theirs.
Both the club and their local police have to sign this form off.
As we are paired with Chester City, it is not always possible for both clubs to avoid home games on the same day and this happens on several occasions for our up coming fixtures.
We also asked not to clash with Wales rugby internationals played on a Saturday, as well as Bangor-on-Dee race meetings. Another request was, if possible, not to play our home games with Chester and Shrewsbury consecutively, as has happened during the last two seasons, for logistical and administrative reasons.
The police will also add in several requests of their own, and then we sit back to wait and see what the computer throws up for us.
As anyone who has studied the 2007/08 list will see, we have not been particularly fortunate in respect of the above, plus you will note that a number of the games will be moved to Sundays at the request of the police for operational reasons and then impact on the following midweek fixtures!
Chester City away has already been switched to a Sunday and we are due to play away at Wycombe just two days later.
We will obviously ask our opponents to delay the second game by 24 hours, but as happened with Grimsby Town last season, they are under no obligation to move as League rules only state there must be a minimum of 48 hours between matches.
We can though help ourselves with home fixtures, and as last year, will be looking to move kicks that clash with televised rugby internationals.
This could be by an hour or two on the Saturday, or by coming forward to the Friday evening.
While many supporters will not be happy about switching, we have to be realistic and say that these games do affect our attendances. Also, many Wrexham fans would be able to watch both the football and rugby!
Listed below are some of the dates which could be affected, although two of them have 5.00pm kick-offs which do allow for supporters to at least reach the nearest pub to watch the whole game:
15 Sept - Rotherham 3.00pm - Wales v Australia 3.00pm
29 Sept - Lincoln 3.00pm - Wales v Fiji 5.00pm
2 Feb - Darlington 3.00pm - England v Wales 4.30pm
23 Feb - Grimsby 3.00pm - Wales v Italy 3.00pm
15 Mar - Bury 3.00pm - Wales v France 5.00pm
