Former Reds Find the Net
ROBBIE GARRETT was in the Stoke City side that won their annual friendly with Newcastle Town on Sunday afternoon.
The Irish midfielder featured in the second half team that scored three times to cap a 5-1 victory with Robbie setting one up and grabbing another for himself.
Good interplay between Vincent Pericard and Robert Garrett found Liam Lawrence at the back post. The winger did well to find space between the defenders and fired high into the back of the net to make it 4-1 midway through the half.
John Eustace and Garrett then interchanged passes to see the latter race clear, but the midfielder could only blast into the side-netting.
It became 5-1 with ten minutes remaining when Lewis Buxton's through ball found Garrett, who slid the ball home to cap an impressive performance in front of nearly 2,000 fans at a rain sodden Lyme Valley Stadium.
Meanwhile, at Christie Park new boys Morecambe saw off Championship visitors Barnsley with a winner from former Wrexham striker Jon Newby.
With quarter of an hour left trialist Newby scored the decisive goal for the Shrimpers when his shot hit the post and then rolled over the line having rebounded off the back of Barnsley goalkeeper Kyle Letheren.
