Druids 0 Wrexham Reserves 2
A CROWD of more than 200 witnessed a young Wrexham Reserves side edge their way to a narrow 2-0 victory at NEWI Cefn Druids.
The Dragons blooded several players with first-team experience, the most notable of whom was Matty Crowell, who started his first game in several months after a lengthy lay-off, and manager Joey Jones must have been quite impressed with his contribution.
There was little to choose between the sides in a fast and furious first half but the best chance fell to Tom Matischok who might have done better with a half chance.
It was a double substitution which changed the shape of this game and Mark Stewart broke the deadlock with a fierce drive from 25 yards on the hour mark and, with minutes left, George Stewart, son of ex-Queens Park Rangers and Northern Ireland international Ian Stewart killed the game off.
The hosts did have their moments though, Leighton Edwards went close and skipper Timmy Edwards thundered a fine header over the crossbar.
In his after-match summary Joey Jones said: "Whilst overall I was pleased with the effort from everyone today, we still have room for improvement. I thought we were really strong at the back. "
