As debuts go, Conall Murtagh's was pretty spectacular!  A fine substitute performance against a higher-division side, followed by a successful penalty in the resultant shoot-out!  Not that scoring from the spot comes naturally to him!

"Well I don't usually hit them right to be honest! I thought you've got to grow up and show confidence that you're going to score so I thought "Why not? I'll have a strike."

"I actually don't practise penalties very much-I practise everything else, but I don't practise pennos much so it was nice to get the goal and a bit of a relief to be honest! I just closed my eyes, aimed for the top corner and whacked it!

"That was a pretty exciting debut; I was still buzzing an hour later!  It was nice to come on and I think I did alright.  The fans were making loads of noise and we wanted to get the win for them and the manager.

"All the boys were brilliant today and to get a win against a League One side is unbelievable.  Hopefully we can kick on from here."

Much has been made of Murtagh's move from Rhyl, but he made the transition look easy against a Port Vale side which looked good for the first hour but faded dramatically.

"It's a big step, thinking of where I was last year and where I was tonight.  I just have to take it in my stride; it's good experience for me.  They were a good side but I think we showed that we were a match for them.  We deserved the win in the end.

"I just so wanted to come on and play my normal game.  I don't want to try to over-impress and make mistakes.  Hopefully I've done myself no harm in trying to get myself a starting place in the future."
