FOLLOWING advice from Morecambe FC that they now consider their travelling support for this weekend's game is likley to top 1,000 supporters, the club's safety officials have decided that visiting fans should be housed in the Eric Roberts Stand.
Earlier discussions with the Shrimpers had seen estimates that only 400 supporters would make the trip to the Racecourse, but they revised that figure on Wednesday following their impressive midweek Carling Cup victory at Preston North End, when just short of 2,000 fans made the short hop to Deepdale.
While they would not expect all 2,000 to follow Morecambe on their first ever away trip in the Football League, Christie Park officials are confident that at least half that number will be heading to North Wales on Saturday.
With capacity at the Racecourse now restricted ahead of demolition work starting on the Kop, we have an agreement with our local safety group that visiting fans can be housed in the Mold End of the Yale Stand, which seats 900 fans.
For larger away followings, we would switch back to the old arrangement of accommodating away supporters in the Eric Roberts Stand. With Morecambe now predicting a figure of over 900 travelling fans, we have had no option, for safety reasons, but to ask them to watch the game from behind the goal.
Wrexham supporters will now be able to use both ends of the Yale Stand, as well as the Mold Road Stand.
We apologise to home fans who had been hoping to support the team from the Eric Roberts Stand this weekend, but we hope they will understand the club's problem when faced with this late change in circumstances.
