SILVIO Spann's first taste of action in a Wrexham shirt ended in frustration as the Dragons went down to a home defeat against Rotherham, despite the Trinidadian going close twice.
"It was disappointing to be on the losing side on my debut. As a footballer trying to settle into a new club you don't want to lose your first game that way.
"It's a sad loss, especially considering how we played today. I thought we tried to put our best foot forward but we couldn't take our chances.
"I had a chance as well with a header and also went close with a free kick, but we should have done better than this result. As I said, it's sad."
Spann's introduction, along with Chris Llewellyn, seemed to have given Wrexham a boost as they looked to up the tempo, only to fall behind to a breakaway goal.
"It's always important to have good players coming off the bench. It always gives the team and the crowd a boost.
"That's what we need, the crowd on our side rather than against us. That'll always give a player a little extra help during the game."
Spann's reputation as a free kick specialist preceded him, and he early marked his debut with an injury time equaliser from a set piece.
"I had already started to celebrate because I thought I'd scored!
"That point, right there, is exactly my spot for free kicks and I thought there was no way the keeper was going to get it, but hats off to the keeper, he made a brilliant save.
"I was angry at the end of the game, as that would have given us a point!"
