Thank You

THERE was a big vote of thanks to the travelling Wrexham support at the Fraser Eagle Stadium last night from the players and staff - and not just because we won!

While we don't have an official figure on the numbers who make the trip to Lancashire, it must have been in the region of 500, if not more, in an overall crowd of just over 1,800 supporters at the game.

"After the few days we have had following the defeat to Chesterfield, to see so many fans on the away terraces was a major boost," said boss Brian Carey.

"We all know results have not been good enough this season and Tuesday night's performance was poor, so for people still to get out of the house on a Friday evening and make their way to Accrington in such large numbers was tremendous.

"Not only that, but from the start of the game they got behind the players, giving them great vocal support.

"With the reaction of some to the Chesterfield defeat, I thought those terraces would have been quite sparsely populated, but to see that turnout certainly lifted my spirits - and I'm delighted for them that they saw a good display and just as importantly a win!

"I can only thank all those who were able to make the trip up the M6 for making that effort - it was greatly appreciated by the players and all our staff."

Striker Neil Roberts added to the manager's comments when he said:

"After the last few weeks, this was just what we needed and I was delighted that so many supporters were here to see it.

"To see the away section packed gave all of us a lifted, and while it is down to the players to put in the performances on the pitch, the fans showed they are still with us.

"From a personal point of view I was happy to score twice, with the second coming in front of our fans, but it was more important we got the three points.

"Accrington were coming of the back of a 3-0 at Bradford, a game which their manager described as the best in his nine years ay the club, but from the kick off we took the game to them and you felt that a goal was coming with the pressure we were having.

"Fortunately it did and we more than managed to keep our noses in front.

"The second goal was the icing on the cake and I had it set up for me with a great pass by Mark Jones.

"Now we can all relax for the rest of the weekend and see how the other scores go."
