Club & Council Meet With Heritage Minister

Posted on: Sun 27 Jan 2008

A senior delegation of politicians and officers from Wrexham Council and the Chairman and Chief Executive of Wrexham Football Club have held a video conference with the Heritage Minister, Rhodri Glyn Thomas and senior officers from his Department. The conference was arranged at the request of Lesley Griffiths, AM, who accompanied the minister.

The discussion centred on the proposal to redevelop the "Kop" end of the Racecourse Ground to make the stadium into a 15,000 capacity all-seater international arena suitable for holding major sporting and cultural events for the whole of North Wales.

In advance of the meeting, the Minister had received documentation outlining the proposal and the case for public investment in the development.

The discussion was extremely useful and the Minister will be considering the points which were made and discussed and has promised to get back to both the Council and the Football Club as soon as possible with his response.

Cllr Aled Roberts, Leader of Wrexham Council, said:

"We took the opportunity of the face to face discussion to emphasise the need for North Wales to have an international stadium worthy of the 21st Century which would allow the people of North Wales to see major sporting and cultural events."
