Taylor: It Wasn't A Penalty!

Posted on: Wed 30 Jan 2008

NEIL Taylor came on as a substitute early in the second half at Morecambe and was given an immediate taste of the action!  His first touch was a terrific tackle from behind to deny Garry Thompson as he ran clear on goal, a challenge the referee was happy with despite a linesman flagging for a penalty!

"I had to win it!" said the young defender.

"I did feel I got a little touch on it and I asked some of the lads and they said I got a bit of it. I was happy I made that tackle because if I hadn't it would have been a nightmare start."

Taylor replaced the injured Carl Tremarco, but it wasn't a change which took him by surprise.

"I knew before the game he was struggling a bit and I could see he was not right in the first half, so I was getting ready all the way through the game. I got my chance at the start of the second half and it was good to get on again.

"It was scrappy and we rode our luck, but maybe our luck's changing because we were losing these games earlier in the season but we're getting points from them now.  A point's a point; they all count!"

Encouragingly considering the nervousness the side has shown at The Racecourse earlier in the season, Taylor was enthisiastic at the thought of a return home for Brian Little's reshuffled side.

"We're really looking forward to playing at home again.  We know there's lots of hard work to do and there are a lot of things to brush up on, but we're looking forward to the Darlington game!"
