Broughton: Little's Tactical Switch Won It

Posted on: Mon 17 Mar 2008

DREWE Broughton was delighted with the results of Wrexham's switch to 4-4-2 against Bury following the 2-1 win.

"It was a good win. The main thing is we should take a lot of confidence from how we good we looked going forward. We created chance after chance.

"Lately we've been looking good at the back but not so clever going forward but the manager changed the formation to 4-4-2 and all credit to him for that. He used his experience, looked at the situation and recognised that we had to change the system. It was a stroke of genius from him really.

"There's a bit more support in a 4-4-2 whereas perhaps I was a bit isolated before. It really worked well all round."

Broughton chipped in with his first goal for Wrexham too, but the wait didn't seem to have taken too much of a toll on him

"I haven't been too bothered about it to be honest because these runs happen but if you keep working away the goals will come. Michael Proctor's been doing well of late so I've been happy enough with that."

The new skipper's desire to organise and motivate the team has been obvious, and he was quick to praise a young lad from the opposite end of the pitch from him.

"The players who came in all did well. Young Gareth at the back was brilliant. He's only a young lad but the very first day I came here he went right through the back of me in training! But I said to him that's brilliant, that's what we want!

"As for the captaincy, I feel privileged to wear the armband."
