AFTER defeat against relegation rivals Mansfield Town, WREXHAM desperately need a win against Macclesfield Town this Saturday (3.00pm) in order to keep their hopes of League Two survival alive.
With seven games of the season left to play, the Dragons need to overcome an 8-point deficit to secure their Football League status for another season.
Next up is the visit of Keith Alexander's Macclesfield Town, who have put together a run of form that has seen them climb to relative safety.
The Silkmen have won four out of their last five games, and have reached a total of 44 points with five games left to play. Just three weeks ago Macc were in the thick of the relegation dogfight, only 3 points ahead of the Dragons and having played 3 games more.
However vital wins over Dagenham and Redbridge, Shrewsbury Town, Barnet and Accrington Stanley have seen them put some breathing space between themselves and the League Two drop zone.
Teenager Shaun Brisley was the star of last week's game against Accrington Stanley, scoring two first half goals which proved to be enough to secure all three points.
Brian Little is likely to make changes to his line-up, as the Reds look for their first win in five games. Danny Williams made a welcome return from injury at Field Mill, playing the last 25 minutes after replacing Neil Roberts.
Michael Proctor is also likely to come back into the side after the Dragons' top scorer was dropped to the bench in midweek.
Last Time Out
The Dragons somehow managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory when they faced the Silkmen at Moss Rose back in October last year. Goals from Michael Proctor and Chris Llewellyn had put Wrexham 2-0 up, though Martin Gritton halved the deficit before half time.
After Robbie Garrett was sent off for a second bookable offence, Macc managed to score twice in injury time to steal victory at the death.
