Wrexham XI 2 Hererford Utd XI 1

Posted on: Tue 05 Aug 2008

TAKING the opportunity to give a run out to players who were not involved at Stafford Rangers over the weekend, manager Brian Little watched on at Colliers Park as Hereford United were the opponents.

The home side took the lead on nine minutes when Shaun Pejic cleared down the touchline. Michael Proctor took the ball under control, picked out Marc Williams on the flank, allowing the striker to cut inside and score from a tight angle.

Landing heavily after taking a high ball, keeper Chris Maxwell had to leave the game after splitting his lip and heading for hospital to have some stitches inserted.

With no sub keeper available, full back Chris Marriott took over between the posts.

On 22 minutes, a long ball from the back caught out the home defence and Ashley Barnes ran clear to score passed Marriott.

Five minutes before the break, Wes Baynes was fouled on the edge of the penalty area. The midfielder took the effort himself, getting the ball in on target and when the United keeper spilled the shot Marc Williams was on hand to finish off from close range.

After the break, Marriott was fortunate to see a shot rebound off a post and into his arms, while Wrexham could have extended their advantage when marc Williams saw an effort well blocked and another Baynes free kick was tipped over the Hereford crossbar.

Wrexham: Chris Maxwell, Chris Marriott, Kyle Critchell, Gareth Evans, Shaun Pejic, Wes Baynes, Christian Smith, Andy Fleming, Adam Smith, Marc Williams, Michael Procter.
