Wrexham U17 5 Tranmere U17 2

Posted on: Fri 08 Aug 2008

A WREXHAM U17 side took on their counterparts from Tranmere Rovers at Colliers Park last night and ran out 5-2 winners in a very entertaining friendly.

With the side made up of half first year trainees and half schoolboys, they took an early lead after a flowing move down the left wing ended with an inviting cross and an equally good header to beat the Rovers keeper.

Rovers got back onto level terms before the break with a rising shot on the run from on of the centre forwards that gave keeper Tom Bainbridge no chance.

Despite the loss of Wales U17 international Jordan Kane with a knock, the Reds went in front within 20 seconds of the start of the second half, a shot across the Tranmere keeper nestling inside the far post.

The visitors equalised once again with a low shot from distance, but it was Wrexham who were doing most of the attacking as the game wore on.

Even a crowd bust midway through the second period failed to quell the home team's enthusiasm and they pulled away with three goals in the final quarter of the match. That included a dipping shot from what seemed 30 yards out, which was hit on the turn and never even seen by the Tranmere stopper.
