Taylor: Finishing Let Us Down

Posted on: Sun 26 Oct 2008

SKIPPER Neil Taylor was quick to point out how his side could have improved a frustrating afternoon against Eastwood Town.

"By sticking it in the net to be honest! I should have stuck it in twice and there were other chances too but we didn't take them, and at the other end Wardy had to make a couple of good saves when they had chances."

So why did he miss those two chances and not add to his maiden goal against York City in our previous home game?

"I think I had too much time, to be honest! I had too much time to think about what I was going to do with the shot. If I'd put it either side of him then I'd scored, but I managed to hit it straight at him!

"I felt I should have scored from the first chance as well. It was from a one-two and it sat up nicely for me, but you have these days when it just isn't going to go in.

"I'm sure quite a few of the lads will be thinking, "I should have scored this one, I should have scored that one", but it hasn't happened. Still, we'll go into the game on Tuesday determined to do a job.

"Apart from the last half an hour I don't think they did just sit with ten men behind the ball, but you couldn't expect them to come at us for the whole game. Still, it's only half time in the tie and we have to go there and do a job.

"We were given a good game but we knew that it was never going to be easy. They came here and did what we thought they were going to do. The conditions weren't the best but at the end of the day we should have won it. Still, at least we haven't lost another game and that's the way we're looking at it."

So how can Wrexham ensure they don't crash out of the cup on Tuesday?

"Just put the ball in the back of the net! Second half you could see it was all us. It was just a case of us putting it in the net , but we couldn't.

"Credit to their defence and their keeper, who held onto just about everything which came into the box, but we've now go to go to Eastwood and do the job which we didn't manage to do today. But as I said earlier, at least we haven't lost the game."
