THE Reserves were back in action today when they visited Manchester City's training ground at Carrington to take on a youthful City XI.

With one eye on the future, manager Dean Saunders introduced a number of trialists into the action to see how they shaped up.

The match turned out to be a very competitive encounter.

"If we had turned a display like this last night, then we wouldn't have found ourselves out of the cup," said the boss.

Simon Brown put the Reds in front on 70 minutes, but City fought back to level terms with just five minutes remaining.
