Dean: I Couldn't Have Asked For More

Posted on: Mon 24 Nov 2008

IT was a disappointed but not downhearted Dean Saunders who spoke to the press following Saturday's loss at Kidderminster Harriers.

"I was flabbergasted really at the result," he said.

"I was sitting there thinking we were never going to score, the goalie has made five or six unbelievable saves and we have hit the post three times.

"Looking back, I remember Wardie making a save against York at home and we scored in injury time at Forest Green, so while it didn't go for us today, I complain they way we go out and tried to win these games.

"I lost count, but we could have scored 10 today!"

Was going behind the turning point?

"From our stand point their goal wasn't a great one to concede," he said.

"They got far too many crosses in from their right hand side in the first half, and while we sorted that out at half time, they were causing us problems to be fair.

"Second half we came out and showed great determination to get back into the game and couldn't really have done a lot more.

"I've been in football a long time and that was one of those halves when you can't believe you haven't scored."

Still the boss was being positive.

"We can't win every game, as much as we would like to, so we are onto the next one now," he said.

"If we can take how we finished today into the next game, then we'll give ourselves a good chance of winning again.

"Sometimes in football the ball doesn't break for you and today was one of those days.

"For anyone who was at the game, it was unbelievable."

The manager though took plenty of plus points from the 90 minutes.

"I got all I could ask for from the players, their goalkeeper has had a great day and well done to them.

"We didn't lie down though, like we have in the past. That's all I asked of them and if they do that, then they can come back in any game.

"That second 45 minutes was the best half I have had since I've been here, but it just didn't go for us.

"I don't like getting beaten, but we can certainly take some positives out of this."
