WREXHAM Football Club was delighted to announce this week that planning permission has been put forward to Wrexham Maelor Borough Council for a major new Student Village development adjacent to the Racecourse Ground - with all profits from it going straight into the Club.

The development company created to handle the project, Wrexham Village Ltd, has announced the £40 million investment for the local community - securing in excess of 100 jobs locally, plus additional full time staffing once the project is completed. This will not only result in benefiting the local community but also mean a more secure future for the club.

The development known as Wrexham Village and will take place in two phases, the first creating in excess of 520 student bedrooms, with phase two creating an additional 320 units.

Director Paul Retout, commented:"This is a really positive step for the Club and the community at large, as we are adding investment into Wrexham as a whole and pushing the Club in the right direction.

"We are working closely with Glyndwr University to create the best possible Student accommodation in North Wales and further afield."

Phase 1 is due for completion in September 2011, and Phase 2 the following year.

Paul added: "Wrexham Village will help finance Wrexham Football Club as all profits from the project is going back into the Club - securing the future, with the aim of paying off all current debts and putting working capital into the Club.

"This continued investment will help to meet the long term aspirations of the board and Club."

Geoff Moss, chairman of Wrexham FC added: "This is a fantastic step forward for the club and we are delighted to be taking larger steps towards the long term security of the club."
