Ward: We're On A Roll!
CONFIDENCE is high in the Wrexham camp as the terrific form under Dean Saunders continued with the 5-0 thrashing of Eastbourne, and keeper Gavin Ward just can't wait to get back on the pitch again to keep it going!
"There's a really positive feel at the club; we're on a roll," he said.
"You can only beat whoever you're playing against on any particular day. We've done that today so roll on Friday when we get to go north and have a right good go at Barrow!"
It was a significan day for Ward as his defence kept a clean sheet for the first time since the Lewes game at the start of November!
"It's nice to get one at last. Obviously we've been playing well-I think that's nine in ten we've won- but for mine and the defence's point of view we haven't kept enough clean sheets. Nobody's going to town against us but there's always been the odd goal here and there."
When that's happening it's frustrating because you know that in a game like the Eastbourne one you could still have a bit of bad luck, and something could ricochet in off someone's shin or drop in a striker's path.
"But we had that bit of good fortune today for a change! Their lad's hit the post when surely it was easier to score! Sometimes you need that bit of luck!
"Eastbourne have beaten Stevenage twice and they beat Torquay last week so they were certainly no pushovers! We'd heard they score a lot of goals but we contained them and as the game wore on our fitness made a huge difference.
"Obviously we've got the quality as well but our work rate is phenomenal and we just grind teams down. I looked at some of their players after about half an hour and you could see they were struggling a bit.
"In contrast, we were full of life and I don't think they could have complained if we'd got eight to be honest because we missed three or four good chances!"
