MANCHESTER CITY full back Sam Williamson has agreed and signed an 18-month deal to make his move to the Racecourse Ground a permanent one.

After spending his early career with the Blues' successful youth policy, he was offered a professional contract at the City of Manchester Stadium and even made one first team appearance under Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Sam came to Wrexham on the recommendation of several coaches and after Dean Saunders watched him in a practice match, he was happy to take in the Macclesfield-based youngster on loan.

After impressing during the last five weeks, the boss was delighted to settle terms and get the player tied down.

"Manchester City have been very helpful, loaning us both Sam and Angelos Tsiaklis, which is really appreciated," said Dean.

"I'm delighted to have signed Sam, he is a player who I feel can operate at a higher level, so will be an asset to us.

"He has had a very good grounding in the game with City and typifies the kind of player I feel can help take the club forward.

"He's young and ambitious, and also keen to continue his education as a footballer."

As for the player himself, he's just happy to be moving onto the next stage in his career.

"It is a wrench leaving City after so long, but I've enjoyed my time on loan at Wrexham and that has made it much easier to make the switch," said Sam.

"I don't see this as a step down at all, rather a big chance to further my career.

"This is a good club, with a good manager and a big support.

"I'm really excited about our chances and looking forward to the rest of the season."

This is going to be a busy period for the Wrexham manager, with the opening of the transfer window only hours away.

"I have also offered a new deal to Andy Fleming, which will tie him to us for another season," said the boss.

"He's on the verge of agreeing terms and could well put pen to paper shortly.

"I'm also talking to other people at the club about new deals, which we will announce in due course."

With such a hefty squad though, it is inevitable that some players will leave and one or two could be making their move in the short term.
