Posted on: Sun 04 Jan 2009

BURTON Albion forward Shaun Harrad has won the Blue Square Premier "Player of the Month" award for December.

Harrad scored four valuable league goals for Nigel Clough's table-toppers during the period, and the award completes a December double for Albion, after Clough scooped the monthly manager's award.

The Burton boss had this to say about his striker: "Shaun has fought his way into our first team plans and his hard work has paid off.

"He is very versatile and even played at right-back and in midfield when we went down to ten-men against Cambridge United."

The highlight of the month for Harrad was an important first-half brace in the away game at Forest Green, which the Brewers went on to win 3-2.

It's the second successive monthly player award for Albion, after defender Jake Buxton took the November honours.

In the Blue Square South, the award goes to Dave Gilroy of Bath City. The forward scoring three times during the period, hitting both goals in a Boxing Day win over Dorchester Town.

The former Bristol Rovers trainee also played an instrumental part in City's 4-0 away win at Braintree at the start of the month despite failing to get on the scoresheet.

Liam Hearn from Alfreton Town has won the award in the Blue Square North.

Hearn had an incredible month in which he found the net in all four of his side's league matches.

He ended the period with seven goals including braces in the matches against Fleetwood, Tamworth and Hucknall.
