ALTHOUGH he scored the crucial first goal in the victory over Cambridge and nearly scored a screamer with a second half shot which slammed against the bar, Jon Brown was clearly more interested in what the result meant for the team after the match.
"It was a bit of a battle out there. It was always going to be a tough game against Cambridge, they're doing really well in the league, but we needed a win after having a few draws so we're delighted to get the three points.
But what of that crucial goal, which took a wicked deflection off United left back Anthony Tonkin.
"It took a little deflection, but I'll take it!
"In the first fifteen to twenty minutes we struggled a bit to get into the game so I think my goal came at the right time.
"It settled us down a little bit and after that we started to get into the game, started passing the ball around a little bit more and looking more comfortable. Eventually they ran out of steam in the end.
"We looked good once we got the 1-0 lead, and once we got the second we looked like we would go on and get a third or a fourth. We couldn't afford any silly mistakes at the back and we didn't commit any, so we did well. We were comfortable in the end.
"The victory's the main thing. After all those draws we really needed to get a win and we need to look for wins in every game we play now. On Tuesday night against Northwich we've got to get another win and try to push on up the table."
A spectacular twenty-five yarder from out on the right flank nearly yielded Brown a second, but it cannoned back from the bar:
"The keeper just touched it onto the bar, but I felt confident tonight so I was going to shoot from anywhere tonight!"
So what of Brown's general mood at The Raceourse?
"I love it here! I think the manager wants me to stay until the end of the season, I'm learning loads off the players and the manager as well and I'm loving it!"
