IT was a hectic introduction to life at The Racecourse for new man Andrew Crofts, who had a long drive north to meet up with his team mates for the clash of the Conference titans at Burton!
"It was a really busy day," he said.
"The deal didn't get done until late and the game's a long way from where I live. So the moment it was done, I was straight into the car and getting my head right for the game.
"Having to drive before the game didn't affect me. I've been on loan for three months at Peterborough and had a few games, but obviously for Gillingham I haven't played for a while, so I haven't had a full ninety minutes for a bit.
"I enjoyed myself out there and now I've got to try and push on from here, and so has the team. I think we were desperately unlucky not to get something out of the game, but that's football for you!
"The lads and the manager said that the first half was the best they've played this season, and as soon as we started I thought 'God, this is a good team! We're going to do well.'
"I was really impressed with the side. I thought everyone put their shift in, we played some really good stuff and we were very unlucky, but I'm really impressed by what I've seen.
"We deservedly went one-nil up and we didn't want half time to come. If we hadn't have had the break, it would have been different.
"We weren't happy with their two goals and we're bitterly disappointed not to get something out of the game."
