Dean: We Have Got To Put It Right On Tuesday
A 1-1 draw with Salisbury City at The Racecourse Ground was not what the doctored ordered.
Ryan Flynn had put The Dragons into the lead from close range with just five minutes played after good link-up play involving Marc Williams, John Curtis and Jon Brown.
Having missed a host of good chances to double the lead, the afternoon was to get worse as striker Marc Williams was first carried from the field with a suspected broken foot and then, on 72 minutes, Charles Ademeno levelled the scores.
Dean Saunders was disappointed that we had failed to gain all three points that were on offer:
"We started the game off great, we scored a good goal and we needed to get a second goal.
"We conceded a really poor goal but if you don't finish teams off that is what happens.
"We have done it so many times this year; we have taken the lead and not finished teams off.
"We missed really easy chances and that gives the opposing teams a little bit of hope.
"They kept plugging away and plugging away, and they end up getting a goal which they shouldn't have got.
"From their point of view they kept going, their goalie made a couple of good saves, we missed opportunities and it's a poor goal to concede again."
"If you have been watching us this season then the amount of chances that we have been creating has been brilliant but unfortunately we are not putting enough of them away at the moment.
"If you added up the chances that we missed today, then it was probably something like ten which we should have scored.
"The effort is there from the players and these things happen at this level.
"We have got to put it right on Tuesday night now, we need to get three points (at Crawley) and four points from the two games is then a good return.
"I am gutted that we have not won that game, especially having conceded a goal like that which we have gone over and over, I will have to have a look at the video and see where it went wrong.
"I thought that John (Curtis) did well on his debut, they played three up front and hit a lot of long balls which caused us some problems with flick ons and knock downs.
"We have got to be able to cope with that because a lot of teams play like that, where they hit long balls over the back of you but we have got to be good at picking second balls up.
"The injury to Marc Williams is not looking too good, I am keeping my fingers crossed but hopefully he has not broken his foot.
"If Marc is not right then I will have to get a new striker, and possibly even two."
