Dean: My Job Really Starts Here

Posted on: Tue 10 Mar 2009

WHEN you're winning everybody is your friend and saying well done, when your losing it can be a very different matter as some of the players have found out over the past few games.

My job as a manager really starts now as we have to deal with this situation and resolve the problems we currently have.

That's not to say that the problems are very big, but the dividing line between success and failure in football, as in life, can be a very narrow one.

When I took over last October, I stressed that all I wanted from the players was the right attitude and commitment, whenever they crossed that white line. They've given me that in every single game since, but what we need to do now is to keep our nerve.

The injury to Marc Williams has come as a bitter blow, particularly because his movement and work rate are infectious.

Marc has been a key player for us in recent months but it's now up to the other players to bridge that gap. I have been looking at bringing in another forward, but I want to ensure that whoever we sign will strengthen the side.

One thing that did disappoint me on Saturday was the lack of efforts we had on goal. Eastbourne tried to stop us playing, but we still had enough possession to have created sufficient chances to win the game.
