GUNNAR Neilsen nearly wrote himself a bit of history in the Histon game when his long clearance almost went in! The goalkeeper's huge kick looked to have cleared his Histon counterpart Danny Naisbitt, but he just about managed to get back to tip it over the bar!
"It was quite late in the second half. I came for a cross and I took it cleanly. To be honest I was trying to kick it for Jeff Louis, but I hit it well and it almost went in! At one point I thought it was in, but it didn't quite have enough on it and the keeper was able to put it over the bar.
"I was so disappointed! Gutted, absolutely gutted!
Just like on Neilsen's debut at The Glassworld Stadium, Histon rested Neilsen's defence with their direct approach.
"They like to play it long and it's hard to defend against. They put the throws in long and they sling it long into the corners. It makes things difficult for us, but in general I thought we did well.
"Manny Assoumani came in and did really well, especially when you consider it was his first game. In general it was okay. I just wish we could have got a goal!
So what was going through the defence's mind, considering what has happened lately, when Histon forced a corner after the added time was over at the end of the second half?
"It was a nervous moment, but we just had to be strong. We knew what they were going to do, and we knew that we had to be alert to deal with it. When they're sending in lots of long balls you just have to stand your ground and defend it."
