The Boss Speaks To More Players

Posted on: Wed 29 Apr 2009

MANAGER Dean Saunders spoke to another few players this morning when they reported into Colliers Park.

Out of contract and not offered a new deal will be full back Simon Spender (23), who has been at the club since coming through the youth ranks.

Simon has spent the last few months on loan with Barrow and helped them in their successful fight against relegation out of the Blue Square Premier division, losing only three of the 12 matches he played in.

His performances at Holker Street while have got him noticed, after a spell out of first team football following a broken elbow suffered in our home match with Torquay United last September.

Simon made his league debut at Plymouth Argyle in March 2004, when he came on for the final 30 minutes of a 0-0 draw in front of 12,000 fans at Home Park, a match which also saw two Wrexham players red carded.

He went on to play in 110 league matches over the next five years, operating in a number of different positions, but has always given his best for the club and is a favourite with the home fans.

Born in Wrexham and living near Mold, Simon has also played six times for Wales U21s, as well as scoring a couple of important goals during the club's memorable finale to the 2006/07 season.

The boss has also been speaking to both Sam Aiston and Patrick Suffo, although neither has been directly offered a new deal, the manager has left his options open will keep in contact with the pair over the summer.

Patrick was due to play against Kettering Town in the last week of the season, but an injury prevented him taking part. A scan on his knee has revealed that a minor operation will be required to clear out some floating debris.

Sam (32) joined the club from Northampton Town in December 2007, as Brian Little's first signing, going on to play in 38 league games, although his career total is well over 300 matches from the likes of Sunderland, Chester, Tranmere, Stoke and Shrewsbury.

Meanwhile, Patrick (31) has scored twice for the Dragons since joining last November, although used mainly from the substitutes' bench. The former Cameroonian international has an Olympic gold medal to his credit, as well as stays with Nantes, Sheffield United, Numancia and Coventry City in a distinguished career.
