MANAGER Dean Saunders is on the verge of capturing a 'new' midfielder with the announcement that Mark Jones has agreed a return to the Racecourse.

The Wales international headed to Rochdale last summer after the club slipped out of the Football League, but is now about to depart Spotland after the League 2 side just missed out on promotion for a second successive season.

"We have been talking to Mark for a little while," said Dean.

"And he will be signing on the dotted line a little later in the summer.

"It's a one-year deal, but if we can get Mark back to playing like I know he can, then he will a big asset to this club for many years to come."

Although he played around 150 times for Wrexham, his time at Rochdale was interupted by injury, which limited him to just nine league games and another four in the cup.

With Dale's run to the play-offs saw his chances of regaining a place in the side reduced, although he was on the bench for both semi-final games against Gillingham - which ended in defeat.
