Reds Close In On Next Target
MANAGER Dean Saunders looks to continued his revamp of the Wrexham squad by agreeing terms with 18-year-old Polish Youth international from Manchester City - Adrian Cieslewicz - an attacking midfielder / striker.
Believe it or not, Adrian is another Faroe Island's based-player, following in the footsteps of Gunnar Nielsen who also travelled down the M56 from the City of Manchester Stadium recently.
If Cieslewicz doesn't sound too Faroese, it's because his father, Robert, is from Poland and went to the Faroe Islands to play for ÍF Fuglafjørður in 1999 and later switched to VB Vágur, where he as a striker helped VB win the championship title for the first time.
The family still lives on the Islands and while Adrian was born in Poland, he was brought up with his older brother, Lucaz, who has played with Brøndby's youth team in Denmark, in the Faroese culture.
He was a 16-year-old with VB Vágur when invited for trials by Manchester City and his displays convinced them to offer him a 2½-year contract in January 2007.
Adrian joined a second Faroese player at City, as they also had Christian Mouritsen on their books at that time.
An attacking player, he has featured for City in both their U18 and Reserve teams during this past season, scoring a good number of goals.
"Adrian comes to us well recommended and we have watched him on a several occasions," said Dean.
"He has very good pace and can operate either as a frontman or out wide, which will give us a few options."
There has also been much speculation about a possible move for Forest Green Rovers striker Andy Mangan.
The position seems to be that the player is out of contract with Jimmy Harvey's team and is therefore free to speak to other clubs.
We have had contact with Andy and manager Dean Saunders would be interested to speak to the player further, should he want to return to his native Liverpool.
The situation is complicated by the fact that he is due to face an FA enquiry into betting patterns surrounding a game involving his old club Bury and Accrington Stanley some 14 months ago - and this panel is not due to sit until towards the end of July
Should Andy be available for the coming season, then no doubt a number of clubs would be interested in the Conference's leading striker from last season - but then there is also a further hurdle of possible compensation which might be due to FGR if he were to leave, due to him being under the age of 24.
