Williams: We Must Bounce Straight Back

Posted on: Sun 16 Aug 2009

MIKE Williams has targetted the York City game as an opportunity to consign the disappointing loss to Crawley in the past and get things back on track

"It's very disappointing to have a set-back like that so early in the season. It's a real downer for everyone," said the defender.

"At least we've got a game on Tuesday to try to make up for it. Sometimes when you get a result like that and then you have to wait a whole week, Saturday to Saturday, to get back on the pitch and make up for it, that's when it's most difficult.

"At least we have a chance to make up for it on Tuesday, try to get back to winning ways and start laying the foundations to get out of this league."

"I think anyone who was at Crawley could see that we weren't at our best, but that's when we've got to be coming away with a 0-0 draw. We had to make sure we didn't concede, but we had a corner and from it they've gone down the other end and scored.

"We need to cut out these mistakes and start learning from the errors we were making last season. If we do then I'm sure we'll return to winning ways.

"We started well. There were a couple of shouts for a penalty and on another day we would have had an early lead. The disappointing thing is that we didn't win our battles, and that allowed them to get on top of us.

"They hit the post in the second half, but apart from that our keeper's really not had very much to do, and that's disappointing too.

"It's not as if they've opened us up or played particularly better than us, but we've learned from last year that teams are going to put it in behind you and win their battles, and we're going to have to match them."
