LAST night's satisfying victory was all the sweeter for seeing Marc Williams tearing around and causing problems for defenders as he did throughout last season.
"It's been a frustrating time. I've been trying to get my fitness and my sharpness and it's been eight or nine months now. I played against Oxford in midfield, which is a different role, and I struggled a little getting up and down the pitch," said the striker.
"I know myself, and I know my sharpness hasn't been there,, so when the gaffer said I was starting up front I was eager to impress. Last year hard work was the key for me and I thought if I could resort back to that then the performance would come.
"When you work hard you're closing the defenders down quickly, getting the ball back quickly and it rubs off on the players around you. That's what the crowd want."
Williams made an immediate impact, having a shout for a penalty in the opening moments, and then winning one in the sixth minute, which Gareth Taylor converted.
"I think the first one was more of a penalty than the second! If he hadn't given the second, I wouldn't have been happy!" he said.
"I'm just waiting for my first goal, and I'm sure it'll come. I thought I'd scored with a header, but it went just wide, and I've been getting half chances like that but they just aren't going in.
"But if I keep working at it my sharpness will get back to what it was and I'll be able to score goals and help Wrexham get back up the league."
The game also marked an opportunity to see Williams and Taylor work in tandem, and the result was impressive.
"Before the Luton game I hadn't had that much of a chance to work up front with Gareth Taylor," said Marc.
"We played together at the start of the pre-season at Coventry and then against Colwyn Bay, and then I got injured to I didn't get the chance to see much of him since.
"The Luton game was the first time I've started up front in a competitive match with him.
"Like last year with Jeff Louis, I like to play off a big man. I enjoy that role where I can maybe drop off a little bit and take things off his chest, or make runs behind him to work off his flick-ons."
If the duo can maintain the partnership they struck up on Tuesday, then things are looking up at The Racecourse!
