THREE quarters of an hour after the final whistle blew at The Racecourse, Wes Baynes was still astonished that Swindon's name was going into the hat for the FA Cup third round draw rather than Wrexham's.
"I can't believe that after we were by far the better team and had the better opportunities. I can't remember them having one clear cut chance in the entire match apart from the goal!" said Wes.
"It's a massive disappointment to play like that and not go through to the next round.
"We got off to a great start and really put them under pressure. We had a couple of good chances from corners as well and it was a disappointment that we didn't score from them because we spend a lot of time working hard on them on Fridays.
"We all worked really hard. Despite going down to ten men we were still the better team, even against a good Football League side like that! It's a real disappointment.
"We were still well on top even after Christian got sent off. I felt a bit sorry for him because he got a little bit of the ball, and I don't think he'd go in to hurt someone, but the ref gave him a straight red though.
"Yet the lads did really well and coped with being a man down. We all pulled together, which was nice to see as we all really get along well and there's a good atmosphere in the changing room.
"Their keeper pulled off great saves a few times, and then there was the header off the line from Mike Williams' effort in the first half. We certainly had the better chances and I can't believe we've aren't through."
Lucas' best stop came after Baynes topped a terrific run with a finish which seemed destined to hit the bottom right corner until the keeper intervened.
"I couldn't believe it! I put it into the corner, looking it hit the inside of the side-netting and for him to get a fingertip to that was a nightmare!" said Wes.
"Still, at least the match saw a continuation of an improved sequence of performances.
"We've been pushing on every game and getting better and better over the last three matches. I think the Swindon match was probably the best football performance we've managed, and we passed it around really well.
"Hopefully we can push on again on Tuesday and get the good result we've deserved over the last three games."
