Liverpool Yth 2 Wrexham XI 2
WITH Liverpool looking to prepare for their next FA Youth Cup tie, the Young Dragons were invited north for a friendly at the Academy in Kirkby.
They will be joined by a few of our younger pros, as the likes of Adrian Cieslewicz and Obi Anoruo got the chance to stretch their legs.
On a bitterly cold day, both teams put on a bright show for the watching officials, who included Wrexham boss Dean Saunders.
His young charges certainly didn't let him down on his return to his former club.
The opening goal was notched by Tom Ince, son of Paul, when he captialised on a mistake by one of our defenders.
Not that it took long for the Welshmen to draw level, as Jordan Kane slotted home right footed after a good build up.
This goal certainly gave the Wrexham players a lift in confidence and they were looking the better side at this stage.
But it was Liverpool who retook the lead when Ince grabbed his second of the game.
Yet, Wrexham fought back once again and levelled matters again before the break, when Obi took a through ball from Ed Moss and snapped up his chance.
The action ebbed and flowed following the break, but as the minutes wore on Liverpool imposed themselves more and more onto the game.
Having said that, we passed up a great chance of snatching a surprise victory with about seven minutes left on the clock.
Adrian outpaced a defender only to see his shot rebound off a post, but it sat up nicely for Louis Moss on the edge of the box. Unfortunately his effort was hit over the bar with the goal gapping!
All in all though, a good display by the youngsters and one which will set them up for renewed action in 2010.
Wrexham: Tom Bainbridge, Lee Roberts, Jack Deaman (Nick Rushton), Leon Clowes, Declan Walker, Max Penk (Louis Moss), Ed Moss (Jamie Morten), Brian Summerskill (Liam Shipton), Jordan Kane, Obi Anoruo (Joe Colbeck), Adrian Cieslewicz (Max Fagin).
