THE Club will hold a minute's silence in memory of Macclesfield Town manager Keith Alexander, who sadly passed away earlier this week.

We would ask supporters to observe 60 seconds prior to Saturday's BSP fixture with Ebbsfleet United, in appreciation of a man who was well know throughout the Football Conference and Football League.

After a long and distinguished playing career in both Leagues, which included turning out for Boston United, Kettering Town and Barnet, he then went onto have success as a manager with spells as boss at Ilkeston Town and Northwich Victoria.

Born in Nottingham, he played mostly in the lower leagues but more notably for Lincoln City and Grimsby Town, for whom he notched up a total of around 150 appearances.

Better known as a football manager, he had had spells in charge at Lincoln City, Peterborough United and Macclesfield Town.

The father-of-two was also an international player, turning out for St Lucia three times in 1990.

Alexander, who suffered a brain aneurysm in 2003 when manager of Lincoln City, was taken to hospital before a match in March 2009 after complaining of feeling unwell but was later given a clean bill of health.

He had once again taken time off due to illness, and passed away after arriving home from Macclesfield's evening League Two match at Notts County on March 2, 2010, after attending hospital earlier in the day.

Macclesfield chairman Mike Rance told Press Association Sport: "We're all absolutely devastated. I spoke to Keith last night at about 11.15pm after our game at Notts County and he was in good spirits because, although we lost, we had given a team chasing promotion a good game.

"We were chatting about an FA hearing after he had a row with a referee at Bournemouth, which just shows how passionate he was about the game. It was perhaps fitting that the last conversation we had was about football."
